$200k isn't that much, even in today's dollars. And he could have spent it just evading people for a year, living on the run. Not worth it, it seems.

I did not do the math myself but the article stated that $215,000 stolen in 1969 is @ $1.6 million in today's dollars.

I know because I read it. 😄 So the rest of what I said… holds. He probably spent it in a year of being on the run. That's probably expensive.

1969?endYear=2021&amount=215000&noads=1&

$215,000 in 1969 is now equivalent to $1,583,256.38 in 2021.

And he had to cut ties with his friends and family, assume a new identity, etc. He managed to live a full life despite it all, but I wouldn’t do that for $1.6mil even without having to evade the authorities.

Yeah. I may do it for $20M if I'm guaranteed I wouldn't get caught, ever, and nobody else would either, and that's my take-home total. I'd probably give half to my wife/daughter.

Is effectively "dying" to your wife/kid worth $10M? The only other "family" I've got is my mom, really.

Maybe.

We've been married for awhile, and I could watch them from afar. And, well, technically if I'm guaranteed I'm never caught… what's to stop me from taking them with me to Paris or another country somewhere? 😉

You really think you could keep a low profile, even in a different country?   :bugout:

I keep a low profile in this country already. Why couldn't I do it somewhere else?

Plus, again, I've got a guarantee of never getting caught. 🙂

    • Day 307: about a 1.75 hour practice session. Spent the first bit practicing all types of short game shots. Then went and worked on long game - finding a good feel for swings as well as checking alignment and aim. Need to feel like I’m slightly open for the right aim.
    • Day 23 (23 May 25) - Played Friday scramble as usual - came away with some good thoughts on the green side of things.  It was a day where I was lacking confidence in the wedge game and played a number of them short, however I went back to some of my readings about playing to the “big” side of the green and saw much better long approaches.
    • That is absolutely insane. I’ve never played a 6 hour round before. Once I played a round that took 3:00 for the front nine and I walked off. I was kind of salty about that at the time because the guy in the shop said if I wait 10 minutes to check in, I’d get twilight rates, but what he failed to mention were the three other groups lined up ahead of me doing the exact same thing. Totally not worth the $20 I saved. I played a course once that was kind of the opposite. Despite being built in the 90’s, the contours on the greens were ridiculous and they had to keep the greens fairly long to compensate. It was an awful experience.
    • Asked a friend of mine how his Monday round was at Trull Brook GC.  He said it was awful… took 6 hours and 45 minutes.  He said they went inside to complain afterwards and the course didn’t care.  They told him “it’s bust, nothing we can do about it.”. Can u  imagine??  It’s a short well kept 18 hole course that does shave their greens down so it’s really not fun to play there.  The greens were built back before mowers could cut them that short .He said it was $100 to play as well.
    • I knocked off 2 more holes today.  Shot 78 from blues (6670yds).  Had 4 birdies, 2 of them on holes I hadn't yet birdied this year. Now only 3 more holes to go:  The 2 lowest Hcp holes and a Par-5 (can't believe I haven't taken this one down yet).
