Lead is two, and the only Cameron making a move is sponsored by MLB.

If Rory gets it to at least -19 through 12, it’s over. Young and Hovland are still in it, but they need help from Rory probably.

I love when the camera pans back on an approach shot and we see the green with two flags.

Cameron Smith with a beautiful second shot on #10 (his first was pretty darn good too).

Rory this week on #10:  4-3-2.  He did not follow that trend today but hit a great shot anyway.

Viktor what are you doing?

What's up with the MLB logo on Cam Young's shirt?  Is a major sports league really advertising in another sport?  Are there people watching professional golf who aren't aware this baseball is a thing too?

McIlroy with a great lag putt from 126'.  I could probably 5 or 6 putt from there, he's down in two.  He played that hole in twelve strokes for the week.

At least it's not as bad as when Ben Curtis was sponsored by the NFL and he repped a different NFL team every day.

Curtis is from Ohio, too, so I can only imagine how he felt about that outfit.

Hopefully he has a clause in his contract where he gets paid more on those days 😆

Payne Stewart did it too.

Looking into this more, the sponsor for Ben Curtis at that time was actually Reebok, and they had some deal with the NFL where they decided to make him where NFL gear. The Payne Stewart sponsorship was directly with the NFL I believe.

Interesting!  Thank you.  I wasn't into golf during the Stewart era, so while I can picture his typical outfit, I didn't know he did the NFL ones.  I did know Curtis and even saw two of his wins, but I either didn't notice the football clothing or maybe it was a different part of his career I saw.  Either way, super interesting, thank you!

How different personalities the majors have.  "Coffin bunkers" are okay, referring to bunkers in another as body bags is not.

They both wore the home teams often (maybe always on Sundays) when playing in different areas/regions.

Curtis at the 84 Lumber Classic, for example.

And Cam Smith birdies 13 and we have a tie.  Four birdies in a row in a major!

Smith is on fire!

Hovland has had a few unfortunate breaks, but overall he just hasn’t played well enough to get something going.

My golf journey began in May of 2008 so this is only my third Open at St.Andrews (2010, 2015, 2022) and for the first time I'm truly appreciating this course and this place. The other two times I think I was kind of in a newbie fog or something. I get it now. This is so fun to watch here with two guys with a shot at the ultimate major win: an Open at the home of golf.*

Still rooting for Rory though 😄

*for this era at least (Thanks, Arnie)

Who decided that letting Cam Smith play the second nine on Xbox was fair?

I was playing Golf Club 2 last night on PC where I have like a +18 index lol and I was +2 on the back nine here for a 1-under 71. Cam Smith's real game is destroying my video game game. That ain't right.

    • Ooh, I don't know about that. I've hit flop shots that are 6-7° down. The more you widen the spin loft the less ball speed you put into the ball.
    • Re: your graphic, ‘ I expected a little more from a varsity letterman.’ Lol…just another one for @boogielicious
    • Can't brag about a 50 last night but it was the best round of my season (4 rounds of 9 holes) so I am not as upset as I could be.  One thing I am noticed is that I got a little more confident in my long hybrids and I attempted a couple longer shots that typically I would just lay up and those holes were a big part of the lower score.  Not every shot was great but good enough that they helped.  I even shot par on a Par 5 after taking a drop.  On that hole I would usually lay-up to @ 100 yards and often miss the green altogether with my 3rd shot (or worse chunk my approach and put it in the waste area).  Yesterday I went for it from @ 200 yards out with wind in my face and landed in the waste area short of the green.  My drop left @ 40 yards in and I stuck it to 3 feet for my par putt.  If I had laid up I would have avoided the penalty stroke but likely would not have been on the green in regulation and may still have been working for par.  By going for it I gave myself a chance at birdie and still saved par. I do not plan on being crazy aggressive but I think I tend to be too conservative at times so I will "go for it" a little more often going forward.
    • Day 14 (15 May 24) - Worked with the SW in the backyard, short pitches from 10yds up to 30yds.   Focused on ball placement in stance - ball back, ball forward, ball center.  Afterwards moved to inside the shop to work on putting pace on the rug - putting one way gives about an 8' putt, going the other a 6' before bumping onto the adjacent rug.  Focused there on the line - picking a target point about 18"-24" out and making sure the ball rolls through that point.
    • When someone is trying to validate their choice, statements concluding with "right" are often the MO.  Too bad he thinks he has to keep defending his decision, just do like guys like DJ and HVIII - take the money, play the tourneys and keep quiet.
