I recently rewatched the 2005 Masters. Tiger would to take forever to read putts the “regular” way. Aimpoint is not a slow play contributor.

I read the article a while ago. It was over the top. He certainly did not convince me that banning a green reading technique was something the golf world needed to do.

Wow...I can't imagine what somebody did that got him so mad about "AimPoint", maybe he lost a round after his opponent used AimPoint to help beat him and he is lashing out at them as if they cheated.  Complaining that it "it looks more like a priest in church" is totally irrelevant.  What does it matter what the person looks like?  And calling it an "Abomination", that's some pretty strong feelings about a simple green reading method. Saying it slows down play?  Just watch the guys on my league walk to all sides of the green trying to see the line.  That is  definitely slower than AimPoint.

I am not complaining, but I wonder how he feels about Camilo Villegas? th?id=OIP.Fk8SnzvWcwGl6NIPlGFnMwHaE7&pid=Api&P=0

Yea, I think it is 100% he thinks it looks stupid to walk to the middle of your line, stand there like you are doing nothing, and then go back behind the ball and hold up fingers.

Not only is it NOT a "needed change", I can't imagine any way to make such a rule workable.  Could the Rules outlaw holding up fingers to determine a spot to aim at?  They COULD change the rule back, to disallow a player to touch the intended line of his putt, but Aimpoint was being done previously without touching the line.  It just looks different, and to (some) of the more experienced (I really mean old) people around golf, it just looks weird.

Now, IF they were to somehow ban AimPoint (Yeah, not going to happen) they should also ban walking to the opposite side of the hole or on the side-views as well.  My logic if is AimPoint is slowing down the round then all of that walking to all sides of the hole to get a view are also slowing it down.

Heck while they are at it, also ban Plumb-Bobbing......or easier yet, just mandate the Caddyshack method:

While I was intrigued and wanted to find a point to support (because some kids take acting like a tour pro to a new level and that can be super annoying), I found that it was just a waste of time. I just don't see the merit in his critique.

    • He wasn't a bad guy. And he was just trying to get out there and get some fresh air and exercise. He ended up liking the new cane a lot, because in addition to not making pock marks on the greens, it also stood up by itself. He didn't have to hand it to somebody to hold while he hit his shot. Or lean it against the cart. It would just stand up by itself. ... Kind of like those stand up putters. ... 🤣
    • Sounds like you guys came up with a great solution.
