Club Bending Machine

Since purchasing a used basic model bending machine I have found it to be indispensable.

My Ping Eye 2's have never played better.

 

What are your thoughts on owning your own and fine tuning your game?

The boys down in R and D at Wilson seem to do a pretty good job of gaping my clubs. I don't need to know that my 7 iron will fly 159.3 and 3/8ths yards. I think its cool if you have the space and the knowledge to mess with lofts/ lies, I don't. I trust the guys downstairs. How much tweak did you have to do to your Pings to get them where you wanted them that the factory didn't do already? Leaning more towards the lie, they have a dot system. Adjusting the lie I can see if you have been measured and looked at for the right length. The loft? Not so much for me. If you discussed your tinkering with the clubs on here point me to the link. I'm curious is to how it has helped.

Ping Eye 2 irons are highly lofted by todays standards. The factory won't touch them anymore, but I have delofted all my irons 3-4 degrees and have picked up some distance but more importantly I have a lower ball flight which was my first intent.

The loss in bounce has been a non-factor for me.

I must say I have improved upon the originals, again for me and my game.

That it's not a good idea for the overwhelming majority of golfers and that most golfers would do more harm than good if they had a machine. 

IMO things like that are best left to professionals and club fitters.

@NHpro Do you honestly think it's a good idea for players who know very little about lofts, lies, bounce, etc to be owning a machine like this and manipulating their own clubs?

Especially considering that the majority of golfers don't own or utilize a launch monitor?

We own a loft/lie machine. Most golfers shouldn't use one. Not when having your lofts/lies checked by someone who knows what they're doing is so easy.

Yeah, why get into the good ol' Betsy and drive downtown every couple of weeks to get the clubs adjusted when you can do them yourself! You musta  saved a mint by now!!:beer:

Hey that’s awesome congrats to you. I knew a guy that made us app own clubs from GolfSmith back in the day. He swore his home made clubs were better than store bought. No idea if that was true, and I don’t even regrip my own clubs.. Happy Bending!

For the majority I would agree.

But for the rest of us.........

      I added to total today by hopping it in on the first hole for an eagle. A short par 4, I hit 4 wood to 110. With a little breeze in my face I hit a 50 degree gap wedge to 2 feet and watched it hop into the hole for an eagle 2!

      Day 14 (September 18).  Morning practice, despite questionable weather (it's raining).   Worked on chipping at first, including run-ups with UW and PW;  I've noticed lately some of my near-GIRs are missing forward, with nothing but grass ahead of me, but 20-30 yards to the pin.  After a few misadventures putting those lately, I wanted to at least get a feeling for what a 30-yard chip shot that doesn't have the variance of my quarter lob wedge would feel like.  I still think "putt when you can putt" is right, but... I am less sure I have a 30 yard putt in me.  Range time also, of course, same routine as the past week or so (drill, 3-4 slow shots, etc).   Did not get to the putting green as it was starting to come down a bit more. Darn, it really is raining.  And I thought today would be a perfect day to play, seeing as how it's 9-18 and all.
