Okay I apologize for allowing so much time elapse between my updates but I am resigned to the fact that surgery is definitely needed I have tried everything else and even paid out of pocket for a "PRP" injection I got 2 months ago and the pain is not going away in fact it's been getting worse. I'm either going in late this month or early February to get this taken care of once and for all.

So it's gonna happen the surgery that is on the 28th of February. I guess I should  be excited but I'll defer that to when I can lace up the spikes again.

I had to get my left labrum reconstructed after my second major dislocation a few years back. Recovery for me was 5 months until I could swing. I played at 6 months though infrequently. Maybe 8-9 months didn't feel dicey. Then I had winter and the next season... Wow. I hadn't known how much worse my mechanics were than they could be because I was subconsciously tightening my front should to protect it. Even before the second dislocation it was loose and sloppy. Who knew tightening up and good golf mechanics didn't go great together 😀

I don't know what surgery you're getting, but maybe a potential bright spot for you?

Well finished my pre op appointment today and sometime Friday morning I'll finally be starting to really get this whole episode behind me. I left the info in the car but apparently I have a tear on my bicep tendon that will have to be reattached which explains why I get pain traveling down my arm.

Well it's been a few days and I can tell this going to take a few months at least before life starts returning to normal. The two procedures were shoulder arthroscopy/surgery and arthroscopic biceps tenodesis. I have the post op appointment on the 6th and I'll make any updates if necessary.

I guess my bicep tenodesis was so bad they had cut it loose and re-attached it to the labrum. I'm just curious if anyone around here had that same procedure and did it shorten or lengthen your turn.

How would a bicep issue affect your turn?

I see what you mean and no my hips and torso have nothing to do with my bicep.

Two weeks since surgery, I have been able to increase range of motion but I have to be careful pain is still there and if I overdo it even a little I'm sore most of the day. PT is scheduled for Monday the 17th.

If all they did was the biceps tenodesis, I suspect you’ll be playing within a couple of months as long as you’re diligent with your rehab and do what you’re supposed to be doing. If they did a labral repair/any rotator cuff repair, that will slow things down quite a bit, but take heart that you will be out there soon enough!

Sorry for the confusion on my behalf, the tenodesis is correct and it was the labrum that had the partial tear. My range of motion is improving very well according to the therapist I'm going twice a week Tuesdays and Thursdays, pain is still there especially after exercises. I'm almost 2 years years from retirement and I think I may stay off work a little longer my job is in construction and to be honest I'm a little scared of re-injuring myself.

Recovery for labral repair vs cuff repair about the same. Hang in there!

Going to go against the grain a bit here and say that pain isn't as severe as we think it is sometimes.  A lot of times if something has been there for a long time it is really neurological.  Unless a sports med tells you it's likely to tear I would keep going with physio until a doctor tells you not to.  Good luck

    • This is my second year playing golf, I started last season but have always struggled with a slice. I've tried multiple things to try and fix the slice: Closing the face. Rotating my right hand out or clockwise in the grip. Keeping the club head low in my back swing. Focusing on a straight swing path. Trying the straighter arms like Bryson D. (as seen in the videos above) Trying to not let me hips get too far ahead of my down swing. Trying to keep my shoulders down until after I've made contact with the ball. Etc. I recently changed to the straighter arms which has helped me adjust away from such a drastic slice. So it has helped a bit. Before that, I was trying to keep the club head low in the back swing and this was the most helpful in correcting the slice, however it drastically removed power and distance in the strikes and would even sometimes result in a hook. About a couple months ago I had a single lesson with my driver and learned some helpful things, but have since struggled to perform what I learned well. One of the things in the lesson was to keep my shoulder down more in the the down swing until after making contact with the ball. This would help the slice a bit, sometimes drawing the ball. To even it out, I was instructed to rotate my hips a bit earlier in the down swing. What I have noticed however with the earlier hip rotation is that it's really hurting my lower back a lot. Since backing off on that it's helped not injure my low back as much. I believe my main issue might possibly be the swing path, being a Pull Slice.   See above, was mid typing when you posted. I have never watched Moe Norman's swing to be honest. I have never measure my hip rotation, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on that after you read about my hip rotation / back pain issue.
    • Two questions… Are you trying to swing like Moe Norman? What's your hip turn like? Have you ever measured it?
    • I've been Playing Golf for: 2 years My current handicap index or average score is: 18 Index My typical ball flight is: Slice/Fade with a driver and FW. Generally straight with irons, varies some days left or right. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Driver slice. Videos:
    • What are the best drills to practice awareness for club face control? This one came to mind after remembering a bit from the latest release of the podcast. I also think that I have poor club face to path awareness.
    • What is the best way to practice short game shots if you don’t have a green available to practice on? Should you also film your short game swings and putting practice?
