Just started out last year in the fall but wasn't really into it. Really got into it starting a month ago. Usually play at least 2 rounds a week and goto the range as often as I can. Also, goto the course to practice chipping and putting. I have clubs lying around all over the house so I can practice my swing. Have mirrors setup so I can see my swing plane... Golf magazines next to the toilet, on the dinner table, on my desk, bedside table, and in the car. Golf youtube videos, golf help websites, and sandtrap forums take a lot of my websurfing time. The girlfriend was also not too happy about me running off to play golf instead of cuddling... Talk about heavy addiction!

I totally agree. My friends believe that there are only two things that I think about : golf and women, and it is true. I go to the course and either play or practice almost everyday. I read this site a lot, and I look at all kinds of equipment reviews trying to discover the perfect bag.

I got it last year and have had it ever since. I just wish that I had started when I was 13 when my dad tried getting me to play. Funny thing was he didn't even play. He just took me to the driving range one day and told me that this is a sport that I could play for the rest of life, unlike baseball which is what I played up through highschool. Thanks to Tiger Woods 07, I got into it and am hooked.

I'm with you guys. I was thinking a few months ago about how I miss competing in sports and decided to pick up the clubs. Now I'm all in. It's a very addicting game.

What I'm hitting:

XL 5000 set: includes driver, 3 & 5 wood, 4 & 5 hybrid, 6-PW, and sandwedge

There was a Golf Digest article where they were talking to Alice Cooper. He claimed golf saved his life because he was drinking himself to death. His opinion is that golf is the most addictive thing that won't kill you.

It's true. Thank goodness there is no G.A. - it'd be empty even if it were real, though.

Cooper even wrote a book about it, by the way. It's on my "pick up and read someday" list.

Spent 4 hours at the golf range while they had a demo day. I think I hit around 200 practice shots and 100 demo club shots and another 100 chips. Only bad part was that I have a newfound slice after all the time spent. :(

I've got the addiction back this year after laying off for a few years due to starting a family. It's been EXPENSIVE, but worth it! So far they year I've replaced everything in the bag. New Irons, New Hybrids, New Putter, but more importantly, before I went on the shopping spree, I got a new swing. It's a work in progress, but I am SO much better since starting to take lessons to change my Chop to a Swing. I no longer slice, I draw. I'm out-driving the best player in our group, and giving him a run for his $$ week in and week out. I'm working on the mental side of the game now, and it's tough. I only get one round a week, but hit the range or practice green daily. My goal is single digits this year, and they're in my sights!
I've spent most of my life golfing - the rest I've just wasted.

Quite envious of your situation.

I too have the bug. I had a handful of lessons as a kid and played with my dad a few times, played a little in High School. I gave it up for a few years and didn't consider myself a golfer. This changed when I worked at a CC. During the four years I was working there, driving in to one of the nicest golf courses in the area everyday and being in that environment really got me thinking more about the game. Golf was always on the TV's there and it was all everyone talked about, I was immersed in a golf culture and absorbing a lot of it. By the end of my four years there I was hooked, taking occasional lessons and getting to play some of the top courses in the area due to the fact that the pro was able to send me to other private courses. I was so terrible back then that I didn't even worry about my game just enjoyed being outdoors and appreciating the intricacies of the different courses. As time went on I began reading more and learning about the golf swing and really trying to get better, I have been through spells where I didin't play for 6-8 months but for the most part golf is my main source of enjoyment now and I enjoy reading books and magazines, watch a ton of GC, checking TST almost daily, and talk with my buddies an awful lot about our rounds.

I cant avoid golf. My whole family plays golf. Dad, brother, grandfathers, step grandfathers, all my uncles, friends, and they all love the game as much as I do. I try to play once or twice a week and practice 3 times a week....and it never gets old.

Is it just me, or do you guys practice your golf swings almost everywhere you go, like in an elevator, dressing room, your house, etc.? If I have a pen, spatula, anything randomly shaped like a golf grip in my hand, ill grip it and do some practice swings almost every time

I practice sand shots in the office. The hunkering down real low helps stay under the cubicle walls.

Sometimes I'll be standing talking to somebody and I will just randomly start to practice my swing! It is a good way to pass time.
