Depends on the club, bladed driver or long iron doesn't really go anywhere imo.  A bladed wedge goes 10 miles past where you intended though.

If I mishit my clubs even the slightest I lose yardage. The worse the mishit the more yardage is lost. Thin, fat, high, low, toe, heel all lose yardage for my swing. The center gives me the longest distance and the most optimal flight. Maybe it's because I use blades and/or am near my maximum distance? IDK?

Yes if you blade a wedge it will go significantly further because instead of the force being applied in the upward direction it will be applied straight forward, that happened to me in my league on Wed with my 54 so instead of the ball going the 120 yrds onto the green it went about 160 yrds which was over the green, fringe and rough and into the water behind it, but I wouldn't list my distance based on that 1/100 line drive shot. :-\

If I blade/thin my wedges they go a lot further because the don't fly as high. Basically it acts like a severely delofted  strike. I don't necessarily understand the reason behind it, but my stock 50* goes around 125, but if I blade it then I'm looking at 145+.

Barring a tree, my thinned irons will go longer if its anything from 7I thru wedge. Less than that, and the thin is usually shorter.

I can't think of one golfer, delusional a we can be, that would consider a shot they would be embarrassed by on the course to be good. If I thin a 9 iron 20 feet over the green I don't think wow I crushed that I am kicking myself for not taking advantage of a good opportunity.

Yeah, my reaction is always "crap, that's going to go way too far and now I'm screwed"

The pro got me swinging my shorter irons better and making more solid contact on my full swing. Accuracy is still a bit of an issue but the shots are at least staying playable. Of course this doesn't take into account playing off uneven lies that happen on the golf course. Perfect lies are one thing. On the GC2 I don't use the "roll out" distance.

I've been working hard on my rotator cuff muscles and shoulder strength. I think this has paid off on distance. Sad, this was supposed to be my year, but the injuries wiped it out. It'll have to be next year.

I was going to play today, but then the weather outside. I really want a warmer day than 62 degrees and 40% chance of rain. Tuesday and Thursday next week look nice.

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
