things that make me happy with my round:

1. minimum number of wasted shots (chunks, OB, etc)
2. improving my game by hitting the ball better and putting better

i don't really look at my score as a barometer of my enjoyment with a round, because i can always find a stroke or two or three that should have been better.

When my putter and wedges are working well. I don't get too upset @ driving the ball everywhere but the fairway. What gets my blood boiling is when I can't score from 100 yds in. IT DRIVES ME FLIPPIN' NUTS!!!!!!!

Driver: Hi-Bore XL 8.5* X-Stiff

When I have no penalty strokes. Means at least I am keeping the ball in play and having a shot at making decent scores on holes even if I'm not hitting every shot or making every putt.

It's very simple for me: I'm happy when the ball goes where I want it to go.

I like this response also though I don't shoot in the 70s. I often tell my friends no golf course is that hard if you can hit it where you want it to go. Conversely, any golf course can be hard when you can't. I don't mind a good challenging scramble or two but doing so on every hole gets old fast.

The only time I golf is with my dad.
I am happy with a round as long as it was fun. I don't want to shoot a 100, but...as long as I have fun it's all good.

Of course, it is more fun to shoot 85 than 104.
What I Play:

Irons: Staff Ci6 3-PW StiffWedges: Vokey Spin Milled 54.10 60.04Putter: Newport Studio Style 35"Ball: Pro V1xAge: 15

Possibly like many, I'd always rather hit the ball solidly than score well. It's rare that both show up at the same time during a round, anyway.

Sometimes I beat it around so badly but the SW and Putter works so well that it saves the round from a scoring perspective, i.e., keeping it under 45. I'm usually not happy when that happens.

OTOH, when I drive the ball well and hit solid approach shots and THREE-PUTTS run up the score, I still feel better that I hit the ball well.

I am happiest with my round when I execute quality shots and stay within myself. I know I am going to hits some wayward shots and make a few bad decissions, but if I can minimize the damage as a result and keep my head in the game I am happy. I'd be lying if I said scoring wasn't important to me, but with quality shots the scores will follow accordingly.

when I shoot in the mid to high 80's like I know I am capable of. I hate shooting in the 90's. I also enjoy rounds where I putt well, too many 3 putts and I tend to look back on the round and get upset.

Breaking 90 usually makes it an O.K. round for me, as with you, I really dislike shooting in the 90's (I don't know why, it seems like an 86 is worlds better than a 90) But I know I am capable of shooting low 80's and it frustrates me sometimes when I find I'm wasting shots.

Not a lot of wasted shots / penalty strokes makes me feel like I had a good round.
