As much as I detest Sergio's (AKA El Whino's) often petulant behavior I think there is little doubt that he is the favorite heading into Birkdale. He finally seems to have figured things out enough on the greens as to where he is now halfway competent, and he has always been an amazing ballstriker. Also, he's come oh-so close in the British before, which should play in his favor.

I also like Lee Westwood and Adam Scott to posssibly take home their first major if El Whino doesn't play up to par. I think Phil may also finally be factor in the British, he's too darned good to have had only one top ten in this particular major.

Anyone in here said Miguel Angel Jimenez yet? If not, I say watch for this guy in The Open.

Went back through the thread and saw two replies for MAJ.

I would love to see Justin Leonard win the Open Championship again.

Some think it's boring to watch, but I admire players who work the ball, keep it on the fairways, and putt lights out.

And currently at 7th in the Ryder Cup stadnings, it would almost certainly guarantee his inclusion on the team - his first since 1999 at Brookline.

My top five picks in no order:

1) Sergio
2) Padraig Harrington
3) Ross Fisher
4) Robert Karlsson
5) Lee Westwood

AK will have a chance to get some good experience. It will be a tough road for the Americans. But... you never know what is going to happen until it happens.

My money's on Kenny Perry in the Open.

(Oh, whoops... )

Honestly, though, I would pick him if he were actually playing.

I say a relative or complete unknown (someone like Todd Hamilton or Ben Curtis) wins it; of the big guys, I'll say Sergio is favored. It's wide open for any of the name players to win (except Phil, who won't crack the top 20).

What's in my bag:

Driver: R7 CGB Max, regular shaft
4-wood and 7-wood: :: Launcher, regular shafts
4-iron to A-wedge: X-20, regular steel shafts56- and 60-degree wedge: forged, stiff steel shafts, vintage finish, MD groovesPutter: Circa '62, No. 7, steel shaft, 35"Ball: NXT Tour or ProV1(x)...

Els has no Tiger in his way this week, he will take the trophy.

That is actually quite a good point, Ernie has always felt Tiger would always beat him, without the pressure of Tiger Ernie could quite likely shine.

Since Tiger is out..

I'd like to see Steve Stricker win. Always have liked him and he's a big bowhunter like me, so I root for him.

Sergio is probably due,,especially with what happened at the open last year.
