Similar to the 100 thread but maybe a score that is more fresh in people's head as to when they broke it first!

It took me between 2-3 years of playing only 2 courses in total (twice a month between may and september).

I started playing at age 53 and broke 90 2 years later. Of course I've only done it about 8 times since while playing 75 rounds a year.

I have played golf irregularly for a long time. When I moved here last year I joined a club and started playing a couple of times a week. From that point think it took me 5 or 6 months to break 90, of course the first time I did it I didn't shoot an 89, but an 85 in a tournament, very satisfying. I'm close to breaking 80 now, have shot 81s and 82s over the last month so I'm hoping to break through that barrier soon.

One week short of three years. Ten months after that in July 2006 I shot my career round 82 and thought breaking 80 was around the corner. Summer and fall ended without that happening. I than got lazy and coasted and thought I could eventually break 80 without working for it. The opposite happened and in that two year span to today I haven't broken 90 on a Par 72 6000+ yard course. I'm doing all I can with the free time I have to make breaking 90 happen again (and then hopefully 80 someday) and stick but the lesson learned is never assume you can put in minimal or no effort to _earn_ a golf milestone. I came real close last Saturday unknowingly at the time needing a Par on the 18th to shoot an 89. Split the fairway and a nice 7 iron got me three feet from the fringe with lots of green to work with and the pin high. A bad chip and a three putt later I walked off with a 91. I wasn't happy once I realized it but it wasn't just the last hole, it was all 18 that factored into the score. In golf, effort does not guarantee results but lack of effort is almost always exposed as such.

It took me 2 months to break the 90's. I shot a 87 a couple weeks ago, it was the best round I ever had. Eversince getting my new clubs, my scores haven't been as great. I'm still getting used to them since they're less forgiving than my Big Bertha's.

Similar to the 100 thread but maybe a score that is more fresh in people's head as to when they broke it first!

It took me a little under 2 years of serious playing. I consider my "serious start" to be around August 2006, and I broke 90 in April of 2008.

I was fortunate to drop below 90 within my first 5 rounds. Unfortunately, I've not been able to consistently stay in that range. I normally shoot from 86 to 94 playing once per week and practicing a couple of hours per week. I've been playing just over a year in the fair weather months.
