Its a game that anyone can play. You dont have to be athletic or in great shape to play this game

Counter intuitive but true. I suppose because golf is more a game of finesse and skill rather than power and strenght. A lot like billiards on a greater scale. Where else do you see cigarette smoking, beer swilling, fat old guys being competitive?!?

It's the perfect sport...

I enjoy playing golf because it is such a mentally challenging game. It's the only sport where your mental state can have such a dramatic effect on your performance. The pressure over every shot is so great, because you are constantly chasing after birides, or pars, or even bogeys. A perfectly driven ball can be well erased with a chunk from the fairway. However, when every shot on that particular hole aligns, there is a feeling of thrill and accomplishment that propels you to the next hole.

As others have also stated previously on this post, there are so many variables to keep this game interesting. You never hit the same shot twice. Each swing is unique, as is each bump on the green or blade of grass behind the ball. I love having to assess each tangible variable and establishing a goal, and when you hit the shot that you planned, it's so pretty.

I play becuase I needed something after my ball retirement. Golf was right up my alley.

It is a swing based sport
Slower paced, hell you can ride around in a cart if you choose
Individualist if needed, I dont need 8 other people to play a game
I needed something to fuel my competitive juices
It is a game that can be played until the day you drop dead
A social occasion that lets you meet new people, yet not have to really on them
It is something to do to get me out of the house
It gives me an excuse to say I exercised that day if I walk
It is not an easy game
Like in any sport, the perfect hit / shot / performance gives you a true feeling of accomplishment and bliss

I like playing a sport with instant feedback in regards to achieving goals. Also, it's a very theraputic sport IMO.

Really, I play because I tried it out and realized it wasn't as hard as I thought. I've been playing for less than 6 months and getting progressively better simply because I enjoy playing.

I hope it actually stays that way.

I was thinking about why we play golf on my way home the other day. For me, it's about the process of learning the game, becoming more patient and having a good time. I deal with frustrations during the round by trying to determine what I did incorrectly and trying to learn from it.

I play golf because I am a masochist. I sleep on a bed of nails at night, and it feels so good because it is so painful---just like golf.

Sometimes I have to step away from the game for a small amount of time... I played in college and over the last year (since graduating) my scores have just snowballed and it gets stressful. I need to step back and remind myself that I am here to have fun, whether it be an 73 or an 88 its about getting outside and doing what you love. It can get stressfull because sometimes I don't enjoy myself if my scores arent what they should be.

I play for the dead perfect drive right down the middle, the sound of a well struck iron that actually goes where it is supposed to and the sound of the 25foot putt rattling the cup.

Loyalty above all else, except honor.

I like just being outside and catching some sun. Plus the feeling you get when you break you're personal best is outrageous.

Also, just hanging out with you're buds can be hard to come by sometimes. Golf helps that cause.

I love golf because:
1) you learn how you deal with stressful situations
2) I enjoy the mental aspect of golf
3) walk in the park
4) challenging game
5) enjoy with friends
6) out in a beautiful setting with birds and fresh air
7) you can play forever, well, Mel is 94 years old
8) game of integrity
9) gentleman's or gentlewomen's game
10) I feel very relaxed after a round of golf

    • Day 24: did a stack session. Worked a bit on downswing feels during breaks.
    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
