I am 33 now.  I started playing about 10 years ago, had to take some time off due to illness and then my clubs got stolen.  So I haven't played for almost 2 years.

How old are you and how long have you been playing? From what I see, there are high schoolers to retired folks, so feel free to share. I'm 28, started playing when I was 23-24, and didn't start taking it seriously until I was 26. I got a while to go, but I'm very happy where I am right now!

I'm 26.  Started playing at 8.

I'm 25, started when I was 15... Played in high school my junior and senior years.  Didn't start taking it really serious however until about 6 months ago... between the end of high school and then I played maybe twice a year.

I'm 33.  Played pitch and putt for a while in high school, then played 1 semester on the golf team (more like a golf club) my senior year.  Took 4 full years off (college), then played for about a year and a half from ages 22-24. Started the police academy and forgot about golf.  Started up again at age 27, played off and on (infrequently) for about 2 years, then a serious wrist injury.  Took another 2 1/2 years off, had surgery on my wrist, and started playing again just before my 32nd birthday, and have been playing and practicing seriously for the last 22 months.  This time feels like it took hold for good.

I'm 21. Started about 5 or 6 years ago playing casually because we didn't have a golf team at our high school unfortunately. Started getting more serious this past summer and have been itching to get back out and play some good golf this summer!

39, started playing when I was 8-9 years old.  I definately am thankful I learned at an early age.  I don't have the patience to learn something as hard as golf at this age.

24, started playing when I was 22

Also played a couple rounds when I was 16 on holiday if that counts :)

29 started very loosely at 23.  Took it serious around 25, started studying the swing on my own and with the help of this forum and got it into the single digits around 27.

    • It's not about what individuals think is fair — it's about following the established rules of handicapping.
    • Day 210 - 2025-04-28 Hotel room swings. Used the mirror, though. That's good. Still just the same two things as always.
    • Yep, I almost flagged an 8 iron just exaggerating my right elbow backswing stuff 🤣 I am sure I might get some stalling. Maybe the sequence is a bit out of sync. I also tend to flip more when I overswing. Doing really good. It’s rejuvenated me a bit. I’m going to start weight lifting soon.
    • However 2.1b says re GP scores 2.1b ii) General Play. When an organized competition is not being contested, a score is not generally acceptable for handicap purposes if the player: * Breaches the Rules of Golf, and the correct penalty is not applied under the Rules of Golf, or * Deliberately ignores a Rule of Golf. Where a player follows the provisions set down in a Model Local Rule, even when the Committee in charge of the course has not adopted that Model Local Rule, the score may still be acceptable for handicap purposes.
    • CONGU – who control handicapping in Great Britain and Ireland – affirmed the Local Rule could not be used in any qualifying competitions or general play scores. That’s any event where handicap marks could be affected.
