What to expect from low lofted Driver??

I currently hit a 9.5 Titleist D2. The ball goes noticeably high for some reason. I'm sure partly due to my swing and also how high I tee the ball. If i go to a 7.5 deg. driver will my mistakes be accentuated? ie snap hooks and banana slices?

I've noticed that most tour pro's favor 9.5 degree drivers, but not sure exactly the reasoning for this.

Have you thought about having the loft measured? Sometimes, a 9.5 can be higher. If turns out that it's okay, you might want to look at switching your shaft. What shaft are you using? Have you had the equipment checked, previously?

the driver is off the shelf. i currently play the blue aldila shaft. i'm really considering the UST or speeder shaft.

I would humbly suggest taking it back and having them measure it and check that your shaft is playing to its specs.

If you decide to go to a lower loft, take a look at Geek golf. They make good recommendations and the driver heads are inexpensive.

Shaft weight, flex, and kick point will influence ball height more than the degree of loft itself. Also, switching to a better quality ball might get rid of some of the ballooning. I play a 9.5* currently and don't have a high ball flight.

Get fit for a shaft. I recently did and it did wonders.

What he went with shouldn't influence what you decide to get. Maybe he needs help getting the ball up. Get fit yourself and find out what gives you the desired trajectory. Check out the manufacturers websites and check out which of their shafts are "low launch".

Do you have a Max Out Golf labs near you? I know they are in Southern Cali. If you do, take a trip. I used their NY affiliate and "Shindig" used their place in LA.

Generally speaking the lower the loft (and the longer the club) the harder the club is to hit. A lot of fairly prominent golfers believe that amateurs not approaching scratch should be golfing with drivers that measure 12-13 degrees of loft, which is about what it was on the PGA tour in the 1960s.

I wouldn't really worry about whether your purported 9.5 degree driver hits the ball high -- the longer the ball is in the air, the farther it tends to go per the long drive experts. If it's going pretty long and pretty straight, you shouldn't be overly concerned. (If you're popping it up, that's a different story altogether)

I have that same club and I hit my ball high as well, but I do with all drivers for soem reason. I have an 8.5, about the same height as the D2 with the Adila. Tried low flight balls, etc. Sometimes it makes a tiny bit of dofference, but not enough to affect the height IMO. And of all the stock D2 shafts, the Adila produced the lowest flight for me. The D2 in a 7.5 would be cool!

I am about ready to try a 7 or lower, maybe the Geek.

I've got a 10.5º driver and mostly hit it sky high. I sometimes get it low, so in my case it's more my swing than the driver that is the problem, if I could call it one. I still hit it long with the height, but would prefer a lower trajectory.

The shaft and swing are probably the two things that matter most here.

Good thinking but in the 60's they used balata balls, wooden clubs, and steel shafts which made for completely different launch conditions.

I would say that you definetly need to get it digitally measured.. as my superquad turned out to be playing somewhere in the 8 degrees, whereas it says 10.5 on the sole, crazy, my coach thinks its a mix up of heads somehow, but it can happen..

Really, before you go buy a new driver alltogether, A) get fitted for a shaft, B
) try some different balls, i can see a pretty decent change between my pro v1, and a pro v1X in my ball flight alone..

Well as everyone says, being fitted is the way to go. If you lke that D2 head, a low launch shaft would be appropriate, and i have heard good things about the prolaunch red

Before I play a 10.5* and then I switched to an 8.5 and I started to slice it more. So now I have a 9.5.
