my local course is two different 9 hole courses:
so I will pick the first one it's a par 32

first hole 372 yard par 4 with water out at 250
4 iron, if well struck I have a 5 iron in, if not i lay up in front of the water and put it on with a 8 / 9 iron.

second hole 165 yard par 3
6 iron over the water

third hole 145 yard par 3
7 or 8 depending on the tee box location

4th
328 yard par 4
5 iron 8 iron

5th
103 yard par 3
pw

6th
380 par 4
4 iron then 4/5/6 in
usually a wedge or chip into the green

7th 315 par 4
driver then it well it depends, there is afterall a reason that the word driver has not been mentioned yet

8th
238 yard par 4 but surrounded by traps
3 iron / 4 iron wedge

9th
170 par 3
5 iron

I shot a best 11 over last time out and usually shoot about 13 over. Putting and chipping is the reason. I think I could easily shoot 7 or 8 over if I could just chip and putt.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

Yikes. I've never heard of a 238 yard par-4 before.

That is a real poke.

I don't think I'd mind too much if there wasn't a forced carry over water or waste areas.

Seems interesting that folks would be able to predetermine what club they would hit on a given shot. Even on a course they play regularly.

For me, club selection depends on a number of factors including the lie, pin placement, wind, ground conditions, how I'm hitting the ball, ... etc, etc.

I mean if one hits the same shot every time on every hole, it would seem like it should be time to mix things up a little.

Imagination and flexibility will make you a better golfer.

Yikes. I've never heard of a 238 yard par-4 before.

it's a small green and has traps that surround the front of it all the way out to about 30 yards out. Its possible to drive the green, but with SUPER fast greens, if you go over it, it's a pretty sharp fall off the back with deep grass behind it.

It used to be a 180 yard par 3, but they lengthened and made it a 238 par 4. 238 is from the whites, the blues is closer to 265ish, and the reds are right around 210.

Home Course - Meadows GC - Links Course

I'll only descrive the front.

1st hole- 544 YD Par 5 Dogleg Right

Driver, cut across the hole and end up in the rough (don't really mind as it considerably cuts the hole) Usually will hit a 6 or 7 iron on my second shot. Will sometimes hit in 2 and 2 putt for birdie, or will miss the green by a bit and chip.

2nd hole - 335 Par 4 Huge lake on the left side:

Really tight fairway, trees on the right.

I'll hit a 4 iron, and if the pin is tucked behind the water I won't go for it, but usually aim for the centre of the green. My approach shot will be usually an 8 iron, I'll rarely get a GIR on that hole, its really hard.

3rd Hole - 372 Yard Par 4

Trees on the left and right, bunkers on the right, tight fairway.

I usually hit driver on this hole and play a nice fade, almost always on the fairway, easy PW from about 110 gives me a nice GIR and I'll 2 putt for par.

4th Hole 558 YD PAR 5.

Dogleg right, very hilly around the rough, lots of bunkers as well.

If I go for fairway I'll hit it to far and over the fairway, so I cut the corner and land in the rough, which again I don't mind because it cuts a bit of distance off. I'll lay up with a 6 iron, fairway is tight below the green, Easy wedge shot close gives me a GIR

5th hole 147 YD Par 3

Water all in the front, green slopes toward the water, green is above the tee as well. Very deceiving because the hole looks like a 100 yard hole when in fact its a lot further, people always get screwed with their club selection.

6th Hole 462 YD Par 4 Dogleg left

Again, driving for fairway can leave me over it and in the rough. An easy repeat of the last par 5 because bunkers cover the rough where I cut the corner, don't mind, getting in rough, leaves me short distance to the hole. usually a 7 iron approach. Hard green to hit, will usually miss.

7th Hole, 325 Yd Par 4

Easily drivable, but like hole 2, trees on the left, lake on the right. really tight fairway so really hard to drive. I'll hit a 4 iron, which usually leaves me about 130-140 out, will usually be using 9i or PW on my approach, really small green and slopes towards the water, pin selection is always tough, usually above the water.

8th Hole 186 Yard Par 3

Really deceiving again, looks like a 150 YD Par 3 and club selection can really screw with you, I'll usually hit a 6. Rarely will hit GIR. Chip on and either bogey or par.

9th Hole 414 Yard Par 4

Small dogleg left, no corner cutting here, bunkers on both sides of the rough. Green is almost hidden by hills. Driver will usually leave me a good 7 or 8 iron out, large green. but really sloped.

When it's windy on this course, good luck shooting a good score, this course is almost impossible when its windy. Without wind, the front 9 is still really tough. I'll usually be happy even with a +3.

What a cool topic!

Here is my home course - The Golf Club at Fernley

Hole 1 - 416 yard par 4
Very slight dogleft left (very...) with a HUGE green. This green is probably 50 yards deep and about 20 yards wide...no exaggeration. Tee should should be played right-center. Approach should be below and left of the hole for best chance at birdie. Bunker over the green should be avoided at all costs.

Hole 2 - 244 yard par 3
This is the dumbest hole on the course. It's a long iron into a shallow green. Usually anyone that hits this green gets the closest to the hole award on the hole. It's just dumb. There is a bunker guarding the front of the green also, so that makes it even more of a challenge...

Hole 3 - 296 yard par 4
To make up for the dumb par three the hole prior, they throw in a drivable par four with a huge green. Well, drivable by the long hitters! If you are a long hitter, going for the green is a no brainer, otherwise you need to layup to about the 100 yard marker to avoid going into the dry creek hazard. You then have a huge green to shoot for with a wedge or 9 iron in your hand.

Hole 4 - 522 yard par 5
Water comes into the play on this hole down the left with OB lurking to the right. The play is just down the right center over the mounding on the right. For the long hitters this should leave you about 220 or so out. Approaching the green you should keep the ball PAST the hole as the green slopes away from you. Very weird.

Hole 5 - 343 yard par 4
This is a layup hole as there is water on the right side of the green that is reachable with a good drive. This green is another where it is better to have the ball just past the hole for the uphill comebacker for birdie.

Hole 6 - 374 yard par 4
This is the only two-tiered green on the course. Super easy hole with the only problem being getting your ball on the right tier for your birdie putt.

Hole 7 - 168 yard par 3
One of three of the par threes that are in the 160 yard range. This hole is pretty simple in that the water only comes into play if you chunk one. Bunker over the green is almost dead as the green slopes from back to front.

Hole 8 - 502 yard par 5
Birdie time! This hole is a big swinger from left to right with a lake on the corner. A good drive should leave you about 180 or so in to this green that slopes from front to back (it's only defense?). There is also water short and left of this green.

Hole 9 - 614 yard par 5
Super difficult par five that normally plays into the wind! Drive down the center then a layout to about 120-150 yards (water on the corner just before the green) to leave a short iron to wedge into this large green. Keeping the ball below the hole is a good idea, but not a necessity.

OUT - 3,479 yards par 37

Hole 10 - 382 yard par 4
Another straight away par four. This one has a sneaky side though in that it has a couple of lakes on the left along with OB right. Good drive should leave a lob wedge in your hands to a pretty flat green. Definite birdie possibility.

Hole 11 - 160 yard par 3
As long as you don't chunk your shot or severely mis-club yourself, you should be dancing on this medium length par three. Keeping the ball below the hole helps slightly as well.

Hole 12 - 473 yard par 5
Severe dog left right with OB on the corner and a lake if you go through the fairway. For me it takes a 2 or 3 iron off the tee, then the same club into the green. I've seen people hit their slice on this hole and have 150 out as they cut the corner. Another birdie hole.

Hole 13 - 426 yard par 4
Other than #2, I see this as the hardest hole on the course. Drive has to carry a bunker on the left and stay just left of a bunker on the right in the landing area. Approach is then played at about 150-160 over water to a difficult green sloped back to front. There is a bunker just past the green then OB past that as well as on the left. I was so happy to birdie this for the first time last year!

Hole 14 - 161 yard par 3
The 'signature' hole of the course in that there is a willow tree just behind the green in a lake. Fancy... Anyway, another standard 160 shot that as long as you don't chunk, you're puttin' for birdie. (Side note - I came within 2" of acing this hole...during a night tournament )

Hole 15 - 549 yard par 5
Another dog leg right par five that is reachable in two. Sensing a pattern? Your drive has to get over a patch of trees (that are growing way to darn fast...) as well as OB down the entire right side. A good drive will leave about 200 in if you cut off enough of the corner. There are three bunkers on the left hand side of this green which should be avoided (shouldn't all bunkers be avoided?). Keeping the ball below the hole on this green is a definite plus.

Hole 16 - 164 yard par 3
By now I should have my 160 yard shot down pat...too bad this hole plays dead into the wind. I normally hit a 7 iron off this hole where being a touch long isn't a bad thing. Super long is over the hill behind the green and probably OB. Short right is a bunker. Short left is water.

Hole 17 - 340 yard par 4
Simple, short par four. I've hit 2 iron off this tee and still had a sand wedge in my hands. Approach has to carry a bunker near the front left of the green and stay short of one long and slightly left.

Hole 18 - 394 yard par 4
I would say this is the second hardest hole on the course...but only because I suck at it The drive needs to stay between two lakes on either side of the fairway. Approach needs to carry another lake and stay short of the bunker long. Green slopes front to back.

OUT - 3,037 yards par 35

TOTAL - 6,516 yards par 72

underparnv

That's how I like my golf. A kick in the face. -Ben

No, they didn't. The person may have left you a negative comment but their point value was zero, so that appears differently in your list (a hollow bullet point, not a red one). For publicly whining about reputation, you would deserve it if they had. End of discussion (about reputation).

Yikes. I've never heard of a 238 yard par-4 before.

You don't know what you're missing then. There's a 250 yard Par 4 on an Executive course that I play sometimes. You can hit through the green onto the road behind if you aren't careful - it's a problem, but it's fun to have a go with driver.
