Yup thanks to a pretty good deal with my parents I'm revampin the whole bag.
Just bought a scotty newport 2, and I'll be replacing every other club since the ones I have now are kinda sketchy. I'm thinkin I'll get a cobra L5V, burner tp 14.5 deg 3 wood, mp 32 irons, and either vokey or sv wedges; they're the only ones I like the look of at address.

Cleveland Hi-bore 9.5* stiff, Taylormade Burner T3 14.5* stiff, Mizuno mp 32 3-PW, Nike SV Tour Black Satin 52, 56, 60* wedges, Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 35 inches
In the market for a new driver, then my bag will be the shiz.

I should be revamping my bag in spring, parents buying irons and I get woods, hybrids, etc.

Currently going to go with a set of X22 irons. Probably either G10 or Rapture hybrids, or maybe Callaway, and either X or Big Bertha woods.

Im set on wedges and driver and a putter, so that should last me at least 1 more year.

Putting the (existing) G5 into the backup role. Will replace it with either a brand new G5, G10 or TaylorMade Tour Burner TP. (Any suggestions? pm)

bought new grips, shafts, putter and a new bag.

Golf is a game in which the ball always lies poorly and the player always lies well.

I did not revamp mine but I revamped my fathers as he recently had a shoulder injury and is nearing 50 in age, seeing a decrease in swing speed and a lack of ball striking. He was using;

OLD Bag:

Olimar 9.5*
North-western 13*
Wilson 19*
Wilson 22*
North-Western 4-PW muscle backs
588 60*
North Western Chipper
North Western putter.

New Bag (all new except the 22* I got used)...it's more than 14 clubs and he is not sure on the arrangement quite yet:

2006 CG Launcher 10.5*
2006 CG Launcher 15*
2006 CG Sport 19*
2006 CG Launcher 22*
2006 CG Launcher 25*
Hibore 5 Iron
2006 Launcher Irons 6-PW
CG Gold D Wedge
588 56*
588 60*
CG VP Milled #3

He was playing steel in all of his last set minus the Driver, I have switched him over to graphite through the 5 hybrid and he is having a lot more fun playing without the shoulder pain. I've also switched him to a lower compression ball, he is now using Nike Karma and Wilson 50/50's. I couldn't keep using all of my fancy stuff and sit by watching my dad struggle with ill fitted equipment.

As for me, I will likely not buy do anything to my bag as I am pretty happy with it at the moment. I will however try out the 909 line of woods as the hype and curiosity are getting to me and of course I will continue my search for a back-up mallet putter.

You know I ebayed half and bought some at local shops, I want to say 400'ish? He has no idea how much I spent though, he wouldn't want me to spend that much on him so I didn't keep track on purpose so I don't accidentally let it slip ;)

New wedges (Ping Tour W 54 and 58)
New woods (TM Burner T3 and T5 which i love)
New putter (Ping Piper)

Picked up a new pair of Puma shoes to wear at the range during the winter on eBay and looking to get a bag of 1000 tee's too maybe.

I've never changed so many clubs in such a short space of time and it cost me very little (had vouchers & trade ins) so thought might as well!

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
