I'm going to stop playing for the next months

But seriously, I can count the number of sub 5hr rounds I played this year on one hand. I play mostly at Bethpage, but long rounds in NJ and Westchester too.

If I could play a 4:15, 4 hour round, it would be heaven. Absolute heaven.

Sneak in a weekday afternoon round at Split Rock in the Bronx. A round of golf is now $25 including cart. (Don't know if you like to ride)

Anyway, I did this two weeks ago and played in less than four hours.

I echo what every one else says. If you play on the weekend, you have to know that the track is going to be full and the play is going to be really slow.

Join a private course and things will speed up considerably.

We played our front nine yesterday in 1:15, it was deeply disappointing to take a full 2 hours on the back nine.

I'm retired and play at a small town CC. My group of guys play at 10:00am during the week and it rarely takes over 3 hours to play our round. And that is a foursome. I let the working guys have the course on weekends.

Or do like me, play the worst goat track in town with a course rating. It wont be crowded, trust me. Also they are lax about starting on the front or the back. When I get out of the car I am always scoping the first couple tees and the greens on 8 & 9. If there is no log jam at the 10th & 11th tee then I'm gone to the back.

I'll try this. I have played alot of weekday rounds - surprisingly, play was just as slow on the weekends.

I always play during the week, only way to go. There have been days when I didn't see another golfer until I got to the tee box on #9.

The problem with the private courses, of which i'm a member, is I sometimes get stuck in the middle/at the tail end of compos or someone on the course is playing a 'proper match', this slows things up considerably as they will spend ages hunting for balls so as to not drop shots under compo rules.

and this tends to get worse at w/ends as my course holds compos in the w/ends.

A couple years ago I belonged to a public course that was on my way to work. For two summers I was able to tee off at 6AM, get nine in, be at work by 8:15 or so. Then, driving by on the way home I would scope out the parking lot and if it wasn't busy, squeeze in a second nine. After some heavy advertising by the course, the walk-on play picked up significantly and now you can't play 9 holes in less than 3 hours during the week, and if you try to play in the morning on the weekend, you better block off 6.5 hours (no joke).

As you would imagine, I don't play that course any more.

I've only played one round this summer that took more than 4.5 hours. One of the guys in the group thinks he's a freakin tour player, it took forever on every shot for him to hit it. I was fed up about 3 holes in, just hit the damn ball.

The worst part, after we got done he didn't even realize that it took 5 hours to play 18 holes.

I grew up near Kansas City. I'd be glad you're still playing in November...

On topic, I played Shirkeys in Richmond a few times this summer on weekdays and it wasn't a speedy round....

Don't worry there is hope.

Golf membership dropped 95% in Japan in the past 18 years due to deteriorating economic conditions.

And we are following Japan's financial playbook EXACTLY.

    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
    • Day 1 - 2025-12-20 Starting a new streak, of at least 1. With rain dumping for the next week in the north bay area, I'll be a lot of outdoor net work and maybe some putting. About 10 minutes of 7 iron work, focused on the usuals: weight transfer, keeping hands behind me. I'll have more time in the coming days for video review and maybe some Hack Motion.
    • Day 40 (20 Dec 25) - got in a few reps with the 55° wedge - focused on low flighted spinners from about 10 yds in, then wrapped up the session with a few bump and runs chips with the 5i using a putting type stroke.
    • Day 26: did my drill in the driveway for a bit. Feeling pretty decent about the change.
