Par four, dogleg right. Dogleg is about 220 yards to clear. Wind behind me, tried to cut a 6 iron, double crossed the shit of it, hooked it into the trees. Tried to be a hero, hit a 6 iron to the green, hit it in the water, was lucky to make six. In retrospect, I should've just laid up to the edge of the dogleg, and hit 6 iron into the green. Stupid stupid.

I hate the 9th hole. I seem to take a walk in the forest on that hole. Today we explored the woods on the right side of the fairway after I sliced my second shot with the 4H into them and shanked the 5 iron recovery even deeper. If I hadn't shanked it, I might have been on the green. But alas, this is the 9th hole. It is amazing how certain species of spiders can make webs that stretch between trees, and they're not really that big either. I saw one catch a fly in her web. It was fascinating. Unfortunately I had to chip my ball back out onto the fairway through her web. Sorry Ms. Spidy. Eventually the agony ended with a two putt on the green and a nice snowman.

So I was on pace to have my best round ever(best was 84) going into the 18th, I had 8 pars since hole #6), hadn't lost a ball since the round before last. 18 hole is a 500 yard par 5. Par and I beat my best score by 1. I slice my driver(only slice of round) close to ob's so I hit a provisional. I end up slicing that but pretty sure in play. Can't find my first ball and prov is under a tree with a bunch of trees in front. I know I already screwed myself a chance to beat my best score so I go for a hero shot. End up hitting tree with hybrid only advancing ball 20 yards. Don't chip out and duff shot hitting 5. Leave my 3 wood 20 yards left of green from 245 yards out. Duff chip for 7. Chip to 3 feet and end up putting out for a 9 to go from chance to finish with 83 to a 87.

Worst holes start out one of two ways:

  • I take a risky shot I'm not comfortable with, and it doesn't work! Like, totally doesn't work
  • I decide to swing easy on a hole to play it safe, and easy ends up being my arms take over, and I get a terrible pull left. (Like OB, or lands in the lake on a fly).

Focus, connect and follow through!

I had a practice round for the mid-am coming up this week. Par 4 430 yards hit a good drive had a 140 PW to a severely sloped back to front green. I pushed it a little, hit the green and rolled back on to the fringe and came to rest right next to the rough. I couldn't putt it, and chipping was risky. I was so worried about how I was going to get a club on it that I never read the green. I took a hybrid and hit it up the hill right at the hole. It broke left fast, didn't make it all the way up the hill and rolled past me down the other side of the green. I 3 putt from 50 feet from there for a double. I hit a great hybrid putt and it would have caught the flat spot of the green over the hill if I just took a second to read the green. I think I was self conscious about taking to long to decide which club to use. The problem is I'm not a slow player at all, and I feel like I have this clock in my head that I have to obey.

321 yard par 4 at Links Unionvale.

Intended to draw the drive, but I faded it into the water.

On in 4,  then 3 putted from 25 feet for a Triple.
