I started eating grape fruits and it seems to help curve the appetite and hunger pains especially at night.

I started in November of last year, I lost 5 kg... I think that is like 12 pounds. I'm still running for 30 minutes to try to loose another 5 to 8 kg (12 to 17 pounds). My weight right now is 89 kg (196 pounds), problem is my back injury, so I want to loose as much weight as I can, so that it stop hurting me a bit.

I'm not doing any special diet, just quit drinking soda and I try to eat things that don't have a lot of carbs.

Regards!

Great thread! I think we all have our fitness goals, let's keep talking about them here and encourage each other.

My wife and a bunch of our family members started our own home version of the Biggest Loser. Problem is....we've done these before, while every year we all have good results, it's the keeping it off that is the hard part. Most of us weigh in less and less initially each time we do this, but this is the first year I can't say that. I lost 75 lbs a few years ago in our contest, I worked extremely hard and was religious about my diet and exercise. It felt amazing and I really want to achieve that again, this time I am really going to focus on keeping it off though.

So.....here we go, 2009, what am I at and what are my goals?

Weighed in at 275 fully clothed after supper. All time heaviest for me, sure I had a hooded sweatshirt on and just ate, but that still isn't what you want to see. Changes must be made!

So far I'm doing good on the diet, I'm just eating sensibly and at night if I crave anything I'll have a bag of light butter popcorn. I am really trying to pick it up in the fruit and veggies department, I'm just so damn picky and I need to get over it!

Fitness wise I'm unfortunately laid up after foot surgery on Jan 5, but after this week I'll be able to start putting a little weight on it so I'm going to get back to lifting. In the past I used this routine with great success:
-Every morning before work I'd get up and run 3 miles on the treadmill
-3 days a week after work I'd go to the gym in addition to my morning run for weight training. Mainly larger muscle groups but overall a total body workout, I end each session with some core exercises
-On days that I did not weight train I would usually do 30 minutes of cardio again after supper.
While the two-a-day routines make it busy it really helps your body just shed the lbs, in the morning you're getting your metabolism up and going for the day then at night right when you're usually in a decline you spark it right back up again so that you're body is almost always burning calories all day long.

So long story short, once my foot allows it my plan is to pick up with this plan again, I did just obtain p90x as well----so I thought I'd see how I liked that. I'll likely keep with the morning runs then do p90x at night, I just love how the run in the morning gets me going for the whole day, can't beat it!

In my experience it's motivation and perseverance that is key in this long battle. If you have a bad meal or a bad day don't give up, that's even more reason to hit it harder the next day! Come on everyone, I use the NBC show Biggest Loser for encouragement, if they can do it.....I know I can too!

One more quick note, in relation to golf this thread is spot on topic. It is no coincidence that the same year I dropped my weight under 200 and became as lean as I ever had been in my life was the same golf season that saw me dip to my hdcp below 5 for the first time. Playing an athletic game of golf while not getting winded and being lean was much easier than huffing and puffing my fat a$$ around that course!!!

Puttin4Bird , I read your reply backswards and thought to myself, "Dang, that's gotta be a coooold 3 mile run in a South Dakota morning. But then saw you're on the treadmill.

I picked up running again, after ankle surgery last April. I love it. I do 30 minutes, which gets me just over 3 mile, and I feel great after. Actually that's when I get in an hour workout with my trainer. Running is fun.

You're absolutely right about playing while feeling in shape too. Its a whole different experience being as fresh at the end of a round as you were in the beginning.

I've been checking out those P90x info-mercials. Looks like a good program. My buddy that used to be a trainer is using, and liking it. Keep it up!

Is this for general fitness goals, or just weight loss. If its general, then I'm on a quest to gain 10 pounds! Not fat, mind you, muscle.
I gym two-three times a week, and take in good food. Currently stand at 5'9'', and weigh 140 pounds.

After about 4 months off after a busy summer I'm at it again. Quit smoking, rejoined the gym and I'm back to running about 3 miles a day. We also started P90X and it rocks, its probably the only infomercial product ive seen that works! Right now im 5' 9" 176lbs, I don"t plan on dropping weight just toning up more for summer again.

Congrats to those making a healthful change! That decision has changed my life for the better!

I have done the body for life a couple of times, and now try to work out and eat healthfully for at least 6 months out of the year, and allow myself to slack a bit for 6 months a year. Last year went well and I dropped 50 lbs. I am not at about 255 and want to get down to about 240 (I am 6'4"). I also plan to walk more when playing-9 holes, can't walk 18-just had knee surgery.

So, starting this week for 12 weeks, 6 days a week in the gym, 20 minutes to 45 minutes per day. 4 days cardio 20 minutes, 3 days weights and/or knee rehab-40 minutes. Eat 6 meals a day. No tobacco and no alcohol (it's been over a year!). One day off per week, anything goes!

I had a personal trainer last year for about two months.
I got really frustrated with him because all he ever wanted to do was sit (with my money in his pocket) and watch me run on a tread mill or some other mundane cardio BS. I wanted to lift!

This year I did just that.
I bought a simple set of dumbells, and started off the year doing a simple rotine I found on-line. I have since expanded the routine and added suppliments. My wife has already started to see results in my arms and chest.
I had to quit the lower body workout because my thighs were getting big so fast that I couldn't get my jeans on.

I'm not sweating the scale because I am packing on muscle so my weight is going to be skewed and not going to a be a good representation of my over all health.

On my tombstone: "If this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, I'm doing just fine!"

My first two weeks is in the books and even though I wasn't able to exercise because of foot surgery I did drop 8 lbs in two weeks. Now let me remind you, when we weighed in initially we had just eaten and it was at night. I've just cut way back and am only eating a smaller amount and not going back for seconds or thirds.

I have a checkup this afternoon on my foot and I'm hopeful that I'll be able to start doing some weight lifting tonight. I may be able to work the elliptical but not likely for a few more weeks.

Keep it up everyone, we're almost 1 month into the new year and that's the time when a lot of "resolutions" lose steam!

  • 3 weeks later...
Note to self. Del Taco is NOT a good pre-workout meal.

After 20 minutes of running on the treadmill I had tremendous cramping in my stomach. I could barely manage another 5 minutes until I had to walk for a minute to relax. Finished my 30 minutes though. That was rough. I felt like it was going to come up with every breathe... Bleh.
