Your Personal Ball Mark Repair Policy

Just goes to show that idiots are timeless, he posted that 2 years ago and has not been online in over a month. But I am sure Fraser still knows that guys that guy was an idiot. Blows my mind when I see people not fix there divots or ball marks. Yes I fix mine and will fix others.

What I think is sad is that the worst offenders of the "pry-up" method  are most of the players on the PGA tour.

I always take pleasure in fixing my pitch mark because it generally means that I hit the target from range and have a birdie putt in prospect.  Chipping from close rarely causes a mark requiring repair and often results in bogie or worse .....

So fix those marks with relish!

While not Ball marks, this summer something very disturbing happened to us. I took my girlfriend to Tunxis Plantation in Ct. for her first time (2~18's and a 9). I've played both 18's in the past, but never the Nine. Anyway it was still early when we finished our 18, and I suggested we go play the 9 holer and then call it a day. The starter said that there was a foursome out there in front of us and there would be a foursome behind us.

The log jamb started when we reached the third green. The group behind us was ready to tee off, and we holed out and the group in front hadn't finished Teeing off yet. Nobody was in front of them, because I could see the entire 4th hole from our green. It took the 4 & 5 to realize what was happening in front of us, and the result. One of the four  was playing two balls and could only hit about 50 feet at at time. Drive the cart down to one ball, then drive to the other, hit one, then go back and hit the other, granted both only went another 50 feet.

By the sixth hole, the group behind, had caught up to us, and we (10 players) were all at the tee box at the same time. That is when the marks started from the group in front. We got to the sixth green (and of course the 7th 8th and 9th) and someone in that group  started to drag their feet on the greens, long tears were evident from every single step this person took.

The folks behind us were understanding, as my girl and I are not long hitters, but we kept moving, and we waved them on to hit when ever we could.

But it seemed evedent that the group in front was upset that they were getting pushed. So one of them took it out on the Greens.

Ironically, this group had dropped off their carts, loaded their cars and "beat feet" out of the parking lot by the time we finished our round. I did complain (gently)  to the Pro shop about what had happend... Slow play, Damage, Fast exit...

Now a question, (not considering the deliberate damage), when it gets tight out there on the course, is it approriate to try to form a "6 some"?

I don't think a group of 6 is ever acceptable if there's another group behind you because no matter how backed up it is infront of you, the group behind will be forced to wait extra long.

If the course is empty and you hav it to yourself then play with 6.

I will repair my ball mark and then if i notice one in my line or close to my line i will repair it.

Whenever on a green, I always look for ball marks. I search and repair them of course without interrupting or holding up play. I always try to repair them as well as possible, making the result so good you can't see there ever was a mark there. I'd rather fix 3 marks properly than 5 unproperly. On larger courses with lots of players I never have the time to repair them all, but I do my best.

I replace my ball mark and any others that I can replace without losing any rhythm to my play - meaning I'm not going to spend more than a minute or so doing it. Just me. But I always get my own mark at bare minimum.

I'm have 'lapses' with fairway divots,though. I usually walk and it's a pain in the ass to get them sometimes. I wish I had a caddy

I always repair mine, and a few others in my path.  There's no excuse for leaving one, unless of course you don't see it.  This is the beauty of golf - to some extent we all have ownership of the environment we play in.
