my home course has 5 sets of teebox's you can choose from...
another course i play only has 3...
since every course has different colors/markers... i usually play from the middle teebox's... ive only played with a few ppl on my home course playing from the tips... and ive been paired up with quite a few ladies and seniors playing from the fronts... i was wondering where everyone normally plays and if they would ever consider moving back or forward...

ps i tried searching for a similar thread but either there were too many or i just didnt have any luck with the search feature

If i am playing alone, generally the blacks..but if i am paired with people, i play whever they play, as it would be pretty disrespectful to be playing with some 70 year old ladies who are just out to chat, (done before lol) and play the blacks and make them wait on me.

It is really, really fun to play the different boxes. courses are so different. It odd to go from hitting a 6 iron approach shot to driving the green just by changing the tee. If you get bored of playing the same course over and over, go play the blacks, or hell, even the reds. Changes the game a ton.

I play middle, even if others in my group are playing front or back. I paid my green fees, as long as i'm not in a tournament or playing for money it shouldn't matter where i play from.

I usually try and play to the tee box that is with in my yardage which is about 6600 yards (5 Iron Distance (185) x 36). I have read in a bunch of places that amateurs should try and stick to tee boxes within this range / formula, unless you are near scratch where you could probably play the tips on most if not all courses. That usually puts me near the back of the tee boxes on most courses.

I usually play either the mids or the next back. It depends on a number of factors, but the length of the par 3s factors a lot heavier for me than the overall length of the course. At least if I'm swinging relatively well, that is.

Also important is if I want to be my normal anti-social-yet-polite self or not. Usually I'll try to be social and play the same tees as the group I'm paired with as long as I would play those tees anyway. Sometimes I'll play a different set just to avoid the buggers. All depends.

Around here it's usually the Blue or Mid-back tees. What I look for is yardage to be somewhere between 6300-6600 yds, I once had a guy tell me that when I turned 50 I had to play from the yellow or senior tees. Talk about a mind game, I was reaching things I coudn't get to on my best day from the mid-back tees. (Bunkers ,a creek) And at the same time I tried once from the tips and a local course and lets just say I'll stay where I'n at on the tee box.

Currently play the middle tees at my home course (white tees) which card out at ~6,300 yards depending which combination of nines is played.

I was toying with moving back to the blue tees (~6,700 yards) before I blew my knee out Monday. Now I'm just stuck working on my chipping and putting for the foreseable future.

I voted for the midback tee box. On the regular courses that I play that is pretty standard. Usually it is all about the yardage. If I feel like a challenge I will play from the back tees. Most of the time if in a group, majority rules. I don't like playing different tees than what everyone else is.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I play the middle boxes (whites on most courses) 90% of the time. There are a couple shorter yardage executive courses that I play regularly where I'll play the tips.

Doesn't matter what color they are, I'm looking for a yardage that's challenging but within my skill level. That's usually in the 6700 yd range or so, but the course itself will dictate. Obviously the more tee boxes a course has, the more likely people will be able to find one that suits their game.

Hitting driver, 3 wood or hybrid into 450+ yd par 4's all day long just isn't my idea of fun!

I play wherever everyone else is playing in the group. For most matches, we end up playing the tips (7000 yards) and I shoot the same score. When I'm out with my dad or get paired up with guys, we usually play the middle tees (about 6400-6500 yards). I have never been paired up with ladies, so I'm not sure if I'd play from the front tees...probably never.

Changing tee boxes is a really cool idea. I play the tips 40% and the middleback tees 60%. At this one course, it really makes you think about what club you want to tee off with. There's also a better view from the tips.

in spring/summer/fall, i hit from the tips. if the temps are below 45, though, i'll move up one box to offset the cold a bit.

I play in a couple of different groups. One likes to play from the back and other the front. mostly we just pick a box at about 6300 yds. most are happy with this.

I will almost always play from the white tees. Which are the middle tees at my home course.

We have whites and blues (not counting the "women's", so designated on my course). Play the whites, don't whine when whites are occasionally moved back. Really not that much difference between the whites and blues on the course where I play, except maybe 5 holes. If I want to shake things up, I'll play from the whites with just certain irons, or drive with my 5 wood (usually play just as well or better, which isn't necessarily reassuring). Nobody I play with wants to play the blues (and I don't encourage it).

Whatever is the furtherest back -- unless the whole group has a reason to play the whites and it would slow play... and even then I might play the tips. usually the landing areas are better for me from the back tees. I know the argument to just hit a three wood if the shorter tees choke down the landing area, but I love hitting a driver if it is the reasonable shot, and the longer par threes are more "interesting" generally.
