I hit it straight by aiming way left and trying to hit a slice!

Do you have any tips, drills or any thing you do that helps you hit it straight?

For straight ball flight you might want to look into the toe-up toe-left drills and square impact compression drills.

you have a 3.8 handicap and you are asking for tips on hitting a ball straight?

Seriously, I want to not hit the ball straight just like you.

all I can say is learn your natural shot shape and go with it, don't try so hard to hit it straight. only yoshi from mario golf can hit it straight. I have a natural draw so I usually line up for it but I've been working on my fades to stop the ball a bit better. well, anyways, play to your shot shape.

Depends on what you mean by straight?! If you mean that time when you absolutely have to hit the fairway and distance isn't really a factor, I tend to go an inch down the shaft shorten my swing a touch and try to keep my leg action really quiet! If you mean just generally hitting DEAD STRAIGHT shots then thats really down to your grip, alignment and swing plane, real fundamental things along with athletic ability! Not too many around that can do it consistently and the best players tend to be the ones that don't try! Ask Tiger or Jack Nicklaus the last time they tried to hit a perfectly straight shot in a tournament, bet they couldn't tell you!

The thing that squares my clubface (or so I think) is my lower body and hips...So,

Great point about the grip here. My swing has been a mess for about a year and a half now, and fixing my grip is what finally got me feeling comfortable again. I tried

everything else, but for some reason I was stubborn about my grip. When I finally looked at it, I realized my left hand was much stronger than I realized (all four knuckles showing), which resulted in some seriously squirrelly wrist/hand movement around impact. Now that I switched to two knuckles showing, my ball flight variance has narrowed from "duck hook to megaslice" (depending on my compensations) down to "playable draw to playable fade". Long story short: You can never eliminate sidespin, but you can reduce it a lot by swinging with good fundamentals. And the old adage about the grip being the most important part of the swing is dead on.

The grip is a very good point to start with. I've hit alot of hooks and when really thinking about my grip I realise that my right hand is too strong and that the club is shut. I haven't worked much on playing a draw yet, but is something I'm aiming for. Hitting dead straight with anything but the shorter irons is a chance of play.

The two things i would say is work on your timing of hips sholders and head, that is what gets me. and the second would be to work on bring the ball strait back and strait forward. if you do those things 8-10 times you should be okay. the best thing to do though is get a coach to look at it and give you some pointers.

    • Day 14:  I hit a bucket with my 7i and driver, didn’t hit my 7 well but my driver was good.  Played my first “real” 9 holes.  Sure, I had a few mulligans but I kept score.  Lost two balls in the water.  Had to chip from the edge of the water and did pretty good, just rolled too far past the hole.  Par was 33 and I wasn’t double but  I was closer to it than I would have liked.  I had a bogey on 9 so that ended it on a sweet note for me.
    • Day 134 - Had a tournament today, played poorly. Same as yesterday where the driving was great, but the second shots were awful. Need to dial that in tomorrow so I don’t finish DFL.
    • Day 313: range session. Worked on my feel for getting my hips more open/rotated at impact. Then did a stack session.
    • Shot a +1 73 today. Pretty pleased with the round even though it could have been 3-4 strokes lower without hitting it much different. 1 topped tee shot, a thinned wedge over the green from 40yds, and 2 putts that hung on the lip all could have made this a phenomenal round. 4 birdies total. Had an interesting back 9, 3 birdies, 3 pars, 3 bogeys and a penalty stroke. Birdied 1 and 18 so that was a fun way to start and end the round.
