You can do a simple search of the forum for Duval related posts, you will surely find the answers you're looking for here . We surely don't need another Duval thread at this point.

David Duval has gotten off to a reasonable start to the season, 1 made cut out of 3 events played (he played ok in the Bob Hope but missed the cut marginally).

I predict he will keep his card this season with at least 1 top 10 finish. Hes got the game but just needs to keep the faith (I desperately want Iacas to agree with me on this as forum administrator...its been a long time General!).

Duval's contract runs out this year with Nike so he needs a good year to attract new sponsorship. My wish is that Duval puts in some good performances and gets an invite to Augusta..that would be great.

Not going to happen.

Out of 20 starts in 2008 he made the cut just 5 times and best finish was T22. This year: CUT, W/D, T55. Go figure...

I always root for DD, but I'm afraid he has gone the same route as Chip Beck and Ian Baker Finch.

Craig

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

I have to admit, I agree with lumpuckeroo on this one. I consider myself a big fan of DD and have been telling all of my naysayer buddies that they'll see, he'll be back....but I'm afraid that in the process I'm losing confidence in him with each passing MC he throws out there.

He might be good for a flash in the pan, heartwarming story at a British Open down the road, but I don't think we'll see him seriously competing for titles again.

I dont think he has gone down the same route as IBF and Chip Beck because Duval is still competitive and is on the road top recovery from his golfing breakdown. Duval is in a completely different class to the two players mentioned with nearly 17 million dollars prize money, a major and countless other tournament wins. Duval is not that old and has a major in him in my view..he just needs to keep playing and obviously still has 'game', but is not as consistent as he was- it will take time and practice to get his consistency back. An invite or an automatic qualification to The Masters has to be his aim for the early part of this season.

I think he has some great ability but he just needs to get his head together. He seems very shy and uncomfortable in the spotlight so maybe that's something he needs to address

Errr....I'd say his aim is to start making cuts, starting with this weekend...

Disagree, the man has numerous milestones on his resume (both pro and collegiate)….all dam near impossible to achieve unless you enjoy the "spotlight". He is a classic case of someone that lost his drive and focus and was never able to regain it.

I doubt he'll make much of a return. He's spent many prime years playing poorly. I'm not sure he has the confidence or the will anymore to be a top performer. Even if he does, there is such a fine line that seems so easy to fall below. I wish him the best though.

BTW, maybe getting away from a big equipment contract would do him good. He doesn't need the stress and having total freedom to choose his equipment may do him some good...

I would be very interested to know what clubs he has locked up in his garage....

. Perhaps he will come out next season with an old set of DCI oversize irons and a Titleist 975 D Driver (pro stiff)...lol. But, you never know, Nike could extend his contract if he has a good year. But you re right, Duval will mix and match next year if Nike or someone else does not come in to sponsor him.

I really miss DD... I remember when he shot his 59. I was riveted to the Television... that last 8 footer for eagle was pure magic.

I wish him well in his comeback, I realize it's been ongoing for some time... but he deserves to play well. I hope he can turn things around.

Cheers, Allan

...looks like David Duval is on course to make another cut...Im really pleased....

Yeah, Duval makes another cut at 3 under tied 34th...thats good! He's gone Cut (16 under), WD, tied 55th and made this cut. So he has a 50 percent made cut rate (or 75% if you ignore the WD). Does anyone know what he has to do at the least to qualify for The Masters this year?

Yeah, Duval makes another cut at 3 under tied 34th...thats good!

Win an event, that's his only hope. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I think the cut off is the Houston event, the one that Johnson Wagner won last year the week before the Masters to make the field.

So I would say he needs to win a tournament under #15 above. It is unlikely he will crack the top 50 in the World Golf Rankings beforehand.

My Equipment:
Northwestern 3-, 5-, 7- and 9-wood;
Goldwin AVDP Irons (5-10 plus PW);
U.S. Golf 60 degree wedge;
See-More Putter; Bushnell Yardage Pro 1000 Rangefinder;Golflogix GPS.

It's cool to see him back out there having a decent time of it. 70-69 is not bad at all at Riviera. He'll always be a good story every time he makes a cut. No one likes to see a guy's game spiral out of control like his did.

    • Day 313 - I played 18 today. First and last holes were ugly, but I actually played pretty well. Driver was great, irons were alright, and the short game was better than average.
    • Day 205 (23 Nov 24) - Worked with the alignment rod and 7i  in reference to ball position in relation to lead foot on full iron shots, noticed an increase in thinned shots last couple of rounds - better contact with the balls (hard foam) during the drill/swing rehearsals.
    • Have you gone to a fitting? A good fitting will not only give you a clubhead but a shaft, etc. that will suit you.
    • It's not like the Nike Vapor Pro are exactly a highly sought set of irons.
    • Last night I was putting my Nike Vapor Pro Irons back in my bag.  I had my sons i500’s in there the last couple months after we all went to Top Golf .  I picked up the Nike’s this past spring and they are like new.  I feel guilty using them… I have other irons that aren’t valuable that I could use instead.
