Would the P90x program be a good workout geared toward golf?

If you find a good golf workout routine let me know. The routine I am on right now is similar to the one I used in college and all it did was bulk me up and hurt my back.

P90x is amazing for golf. I can speak out of experience. I've been on the program for about 2 months now, and I can just FEEL more power with my swing; especially off the tee. Not to mention my overall agility is disgusting. I can now do 100 pushups without stopping (up from around ~50), and 20 pull-ups with perfect form.

You get 10 DVDs, and follow a workout and eating plan for the 90 days (obviously). I am in the military and am pretty fit--or so I thought. These workouts are insane...granted there are different "levels" for each exercise, but you are always pushing yourself.

The yoga and stretching DVDs are great for your swing. Also, there is a "Core Synergistics" DVD which is...part of your swing. I think it is a great workout program if you don't have a gym available, or don't have the time/motivation to go to the gym. Just having someone guide you thru the exercises is cool too. Just be prepared you get your ass kicked.

But yeah, IMHO P90x is great not just for golf, but overall fitness. Even if the infomercials get annoying...

I have the program already. I have started it 2 or 3 times now. I can't do their diet program though...too much. I am going to try to start back AGAIN next week. I just can't seem to stay motivated more than 2 or 3 weeks...

I work out on a 4 day split, with cardio on off days, followed by a good high protein diet. It greatly has helped my game.

the p90x would be a great workout for golf. its all about building lean muscle and definition, while at the same time getting incredible strong. you use your own body weight against you and constantly confuse your muscles. you will notice a better game due to more balance and strength, and you don't bulk up yet get even more flexible.

Not to mention, p90x is great because there is not only muscle building exercises but also Yoga and Plyometrics which both help a lot for balance, flexibility, and agility....all helpful for the golf swing. Yoga is sick, I've gone through 2 weeks of my p90x and the Yoga will absolutely kill you. It's great though, I never pictured myself doing it EVER and everytime I'm done I just loved it.

i work out in my gym 6 days a week

mon-back
tues-chest & tricep
wed-bicep & leg
thur-cardio atleast an hour
fri-shoulder
sat-abs and cardio atleast and hour
sun-rest

every excercise i do i will do 4-5 sets with 15-20reps per set. This does two things one, i wont bulk up i retain full range of motion, and two it really gets you on endurance. I used to get fatiqued and not know it coming down the stretch on the back nine, not anymore. 6 weeks ago i started i weighed 205 (6'1") now i'm down to 190 and alot stronger. U dont need p90x to get in shape, u just need good work ethic and discipline.

I try and immulate Tiger's workout routine.

I switch daily...mon, wed, fri, sun will be upper body, tues, thrs, sat will be lower body. With abs and lower back every day

next week will be mon, wed, fri, sun lower body, etc etc etc.

And I don't try and max out...I take more reps with less wieght, much like Tiger does...he's just a helluva lot stronger than I am.

And I always being and end with cardio...5 miles at begining, 5 miles at the end (for now).

Lately I've been doing a lot more cardio and lower body because I had some partially torn tendonds in my finger and up till today I wasn't able to life weights cause I couldn't use my finger in any way.

Decline oblique rotations are great aswell. It emulates the movement of the swing and will help strengthen your core.

I personally think Plyo's and good streching (Yoga) are the best for my game. P90 (assuming) has that incorporated so I say go for it. Also, after seeing the size of TW's biceps, maybe power lifting?

Have you heard of a rest day?

That routine sounds insane! Just wondering why do you split your cardio?

Have you heard of a rest day?

lol no such thing as an off day. If I'm tired or sore, I'll slow it down a little bit...but I rarely take a day off. If I'm going to play and compete at the major division one level, I'm gonna have to prepare both on and off the course. I'm not a big dude lol 6-1, 185...I need some muscle man lol I'm just a skinny white boy.

I do cardio at the end as a "cool down" type of workout with not as much resistance. Just something a trainer gave me a tip on.

The cardio thing makes sense.

You really should have some days off though. Muscle grows and gets stronger when it is resting. Working out is actually breaking it down, and then when you rest it repairs. Fair enough wanting to be bigger, but don't damage yourself doing it.

You don't bulk up from a workout you bulk up from your diet.

Well in reality, you bulk up or don't bulk up because of a combination of everything.

One specific thing, won't control this.

Good point, I kind of shot from the hip.

Diet is key though, most people generally wont bulk up if they are cutting calories. Again, every person is different......

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
    • Day 136 12-26 Had a different practice planned today but life happened. Worked on "wide to wide" and still working on remaining flowy. Starting the club head in front of the ball as a drill, is helping with the flow of the swing.
