What's your latest swing thought you've been working on?

I have two. First is using my left shoulder to start my swing. Not my hands. Second is keeping the right leg flexed and still during the back swing.

I have two right now also:

1) Quiet hands on the takeaway

2) More knee flex

I am working on my stabilizing my posture so I have two swing thoughts:

1. Turn around my spine rather than turn my shoulders under. (I was dipping in my back swing a bit.)

2. Pivot, push, drop, swing. Ya, last one will make no sense without context but ... it would just take a long time to write out the context. Again, working on my posture through impact.

I always have the same two

1) where's my target?

2) extend down the line toward the target.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

Don't let the right thigh move back. Keep the knee flexed and hold the right thigh looking at the ball on the backswing. Yeah, the right hip moves a little, but keep the pressure in the thigh, ready to fire.

I can't resist:

1. Hope I Hit It...

2. Hope I Find It...

It works well, most of the time I Hit It, and most of the time I Find It.

Seriously, this is what I try to do:

1. Check to be sure I am setup well...

2. The ball is going to land right there...

Mine right now is keep a nice light grip and put the head of the club in the catchers mitt behind me...allows me to get set at the top correctly.

during practice swing, i try to feel a 3/4 swing and balanced finished.

When over the ball, the absolute only thing on my mind is target target target....and target

My biggest mistake has been not having a specific target. I try to get OCD with my target now.

Mine is still the same---I think "1,2,3", as Slammin' Sam Snead did, in order to promote good rhythm and balance. It works, as long as the techincal aspects of your swing are right.

i took sam's suggestion on this, too, when i was working on my tempo. he just said "think of a waltz," and i thought, hmmm. what music do i know that's in 3/4 time? i found just what i was looking for in a song called "3 libras" by a band called a perfect circle. it has a nice, medium paced tempo and is in waltz-time, so whenever i was teeing up, i'd just imagine the opening guitar riff for that song and think of myself as being a human metronome. worked like a charm.

It's great to see the low handicappers mention "target" as their only thought. That's cool. These days I'm thinking "full turn and let it go". That full shoulder turn helps my rythm and to set the club at the top.

Lag, lag, lag...

Was there a special on the Golf Channel or something on Lag. This is popping up on the board all over the place. I love lag but seriously, wow.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
