Let's assume no elevation change, little to no wind, nice 80 degree day. What do you hit? I used to go with a 4 iron, but now I've gone with a smooth 5 wood I'm hitting the green more often. Just curious how different people handle a long par 3.

Wow, must be nice not to have to deal with par 3's over 185 the two on the front nine of the course i play the most are 187 and 217. The other two on the back are about 160 and 180.

But to answer the question i take a 4 hybrid of 23 degrees on that shot.

I play a choked up 3 wood or even a choked up driver if the wind is against me and play a slight cut shot.

I voted 5 iron, but if the pin is in the front and it's a forced carry over water or a bunker, I might play it 210 - 215 and hit the 4 hybrid to make sure I don't have to hit the perfect shot to be on the green.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

depnding on the pin location, firmness of greens, hazards, etc etc more than likely a smooth 5 or a soft 4

I have to contend with a few of these. For me, it's a 3-wood. It used to be a driver, not too long ago. I can't wait until it's an iron

200 even it really depends. I normally hit my 5 wood like 210, and my 3 iron is inconsistant but near 200. So no water to carry, and I'm swining good that day I'll pull a 3 iron. If I need to carry every bit of 200 you better believe I'm hitting 5 wood.

We don't have too many par-3s of this length, but there is one if the pin is at the back. Then I take my 3 hybrid. It;s not a shot I have to hit too often, but hit well the hybrid will land pretty softly.
