Hello all,

this is my swing recorded yesterday during a golf round. Some features before you can judge:

My handicap: 11.9 (it´s the official one because at this moment i don´t accomplish it).

Driver: Titleist 905T, 9.5º Grafalloy Blue stiff

Average driver swing speed: 92-95 mph

Average distance: 230-245 yards

My thoughts: Not enough hips work, too fast backswing, i start my swing with an incorrect hands movement, and....... lovely finish :)

Here it is.

Like someone commented on my swing; "And I thought I swung with my arms".

I don't know how much advice one should take from a high-handicapper, but your swing doesn't look too rhythmic or smooth. Could be the camera, but it looks a bit static.
Your arms are pretty much doing all the work and the body is moved because of the arms, there is like no body movement at all. You take it away with the arms and start the downswing with the arms. The wrists have released before you reach the ball, letting the arms do all the work there too.

I'm almost surprised you have such a low hcp and average 240 with the driver with that swing. These are my thoughts, I don't know if you have a plan with this or just post it to get feedback.

Got some footage from down the line?

You need just a bit of a more athletic stance... set your feet like you're fielding a ground ball with your knees flexed a bit more. Swing tempo is very quick... my swing count is Carmen Electra. Causes me to take the club back and through the ball much more smoothly and I always smile no matter where the ball goes.

Your swing is kinda short. You could definately use some more rotation of hips and your shoulders. Also, at the top of your backswing, u should set at the top, instead of buggy whiipping your club through your downswing. Weight transfer could also be better. Not a bad swing i guess =)

If you have your swing from the face on and down the line camera angle I would be more than happy to analyze it for swing check. Let me know via PM if you do.

Move the club closer to paralell at the top. That will encourage more of a body-powered swing. Slow that backswing waaaay down.

I'd add a waggle. A bit of tension throughout the swing could possibly be alleviated by waggling the club at address.

I like the full follow through. Please try to post a tangential rear angle view. I don't want to look at your butt, however, I want to look at your backswing and forward swing angles and swing plane.

This link explains the angles to record from.

Thank you very much for all your responses. I guess i need to do some changes, agree that it seems my swing is performed a lot by my arms, and hips and shoulders could take more action.
I strongly agree i need to slow down my back swing, i think i will use my weighted club to try to achieve this goal. Its is said here that your swing should last as long as saying to yourself "Severiano Ballesteros" (Carmen Electra looks better, but a bit distracting as well

This is my swing from behind. The ball went way right, i think just where my feet are aiming.

Again thank you

thanks for the update.

You do many things well (IMO)

The big picture
A bit stiff with the body throughout the swing. Adding a waggle at address might loosen things up a bit.
Backswing is quick--However, some players have done extremely well with quick back swings--Nick Price comes to mind.

Minor details when comparing to tour average swings. These may be nitpicking-but its what I see.
1. Bend your waist a bit more at address.
2. Bend your knees just slightly more at address.
3. Your shoulders and head are a bit rounded forward at address.
3. You open your clubface early in the back swing by rolling your wrists back and out.
4. Try a little pause at the top of the back swing.
5. Slightly over-the-top when transitioning from backswing to forward swing.

Follow through is outstanding.
Your balance is very good.

Look at this video. Pause the players at address. see how straight their backs and necks are and look at the hip and knee flex.

so much tension in your shoulders. Free them up. Your swing plane looks great though. You definately have the makings of a GREAT swing man. Keep up the good work.

your hands at the start of your back swing are wrong, and you should widen your stance.

I personally think you should see a teaching pro but I am going to add my 2 cents anyway. I think you need to do 4 things:

1 - Widen your stance, especially with the driver. Your feet should be as wide as your hips.

2- As mentioned before, you need to bend more at your hips.

3- It looks like you stand up on your back swing which causes (along with not bending enough at your hips) your left shoulder to be higher than your right. Once you start bending at the hips you should try and keep your spine angle through out your swing which should provide a more consistent swing plane.

4 - You take the club back way too far to the inside. This is probably what causes you to have the over the top swing.

The video posted above are GREAT examples of swings that all do what I have suggested. This is just a fellow golfers opinion, you should really see a teaching pro. If you are a 12 handicap now you will be able to shred some of that off quickly once you fix some of your small issues. Good Luck!! Let us know about your progress.

What amazes me about tour swings is how fast they clear their hips (especially with the driver). They really whip their hips around. They tend to initiate the forward swing at the feet/knees and then whip their hips. The upper body and arms catch up on the downswing.

What are you doing with your right elbow? It almost seems you are resisting letting the right arm fold for as long as possible. I could be totally wrong of course. Just kinda looks that way. There is just a stiffness to the shoulders and arms. Maybe that helps you keep things under control and helps you keep your body and arms connected.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
