I truly hate when this happens.

So I'm playing in a scramble tournament fundraiser for the local high school band.

We shoot decent and go 15 under. We have two golfers that are 2-4 handicappers. I'm playing to about a 10 handicap right now. Our last guy is playing around a 13 or so.

We lose by 6 shots...........

That's right someone said they put up a 21 under on an 18 hold scramble.

I saw the winning team and one of them could have passed for retarded. Another one was noticeably drunk. The 3rd I actually approached and he admitted to being a horrible golfer. But he did say that "Gil" was a great golfer but he had to hurry home to take care of his grand kids. So basically we got pencil whipped by a retard, a drunk, a hacker, and a grandpa.

My home course is Willowdale and its not overly long but its EXTREMELY narrow and I kid you not that Tiger, Phil, Vijay, and Sergio would have a damn tough time going 21 under.

The winner won 3 foursomes to 3 of the top courses in the area including the TPC.

I could ****ing kill someone.

That sucks, man. But just forget about it. If the winner got $1,000,000 and everybody else got nothing, I'd understand. But it's just a fundraiser tournament.

It really is a shame that some people are liars and cheats. I work for a County Health Department and we have a scramble once a year. Most of the employees rarely play but there is a group of single digit caps who are much better than the rest...but they don't always win. Cheating seems to run rampant in scrambles...I don't know why.

That's why the best format for outings such as this is 3 person scrambles and you go out with another 3some....

Scrambles not only bring out those that cant golf, they also bring out the worst in some of the better golfers.

I have seen people way above me at work cheat like madmen to win a scramble. They will yell at their partners for cursing after a bad shot - not for the cursing but for fear of another group knowing that they made a bad shot and that they may not be able to fudge their score on that hole.

I hate scrambles and will only play them with my regular saturday group 1-2 times a year. For us it is all fun - no pressure on you when 3 others have your back. We will never win won but we have good time out there together.

JUst played our clubs first event today which was a scramble. We play twosomes and the other team keeps your score. Never have problems with this format.

the four person team scramble cheating happens all the time. It is terrible.

Twosome scramble is very fun, playing with another team you make sure nobody is cheating. I've never played in a foursome scramble, but if it is not uncommon that people cheat then I don't have a need to play it.

I don't have a problem with others playing poorly, I know how I used to play myself. But people that don't give a crap and at the same time cheat, they can just leave the course and go shout at a TV screen.

I`ve been on the wrong end of several "pencil whippings" in charity events, although we did win one at 21 under. We got $50 gift certificates! The main thing about charity events is to remember they are fund raisers-just eat up a bunch of food, drink all the free beer you can,and have fun!Let the *******s that need to cheat cheat.I doubt any of them are entered in the next stroke play event at your club! Just have fun!

That's why theirs not a Buick scramble anymore. That was a fun scramble and had some great prizes. You even got to meet Tiger if you did well enough. But you had some cheaters and now it's gone.

We normally play four person scrambles and two teams go off at the same time. You keep your own score, but I always keep the other teams score too. don't be afraid to ask (what did you get on that hole) you can then question their score then if theirs a problem. Haven't had a problem yet and most people are honest with their golf.

I try to put on a scramble at work once a year if I can. I put everybody's name in the hat and draw teams. that way for the most part you don't get those famous stacked teams. It's all in great fun and that is my mindset going into scrambles. It's the only time I get to play really nice country clubs that aren't open to the public. So I enjoy every shot along with the beauty of the course. Sorry for rambling on...

I feel really bad about this. It seems to happen all the time in these kind of events. I work at a course, and I see everyone coming in after the tourney and ask how they did. A few times I hear -22, and wonder which nine holes they didn't count. The worst part like you said is that its always the worst players. Not the caps but the guy persimmion shafts and the spiderswebs on the bag. People come on and please stop cheating.

i played my 1st scrambles last year both 4 man...in the first it was for my kids private school,, an affluent group of golfers 110 man field...the low posted score was -14 or 16 not sure...we were 1 under but won our flight ...the worst flight...the LD was won by me AWW yea. cant really cheat there since its near clubhouse and someone could be watchin...also on a par 3 closest to pin...some ******* went up to sheet and wrote on womens placard that the schools director was 1 foot out...later to find she wasnt in the field. our 3rd was a woman who was 10ft from cup on green and she should have won...

the 2nd scramble was at a dump of a course..greens like concrete ..this for the town little league...so every yahoo was out....someone posted a 20 under...this my friend was certainly cheating imo ,,,but look at the class of golfer and you see why.

i like the 2 3somes....great idea.

One thing I always say before we go out is to have the group behind always kind of keep track of what is happening in front of them. If they are all over the place and come in at 21 under, tell the pro and they will be dq'ed. Next time they cheat you, put a firecracker in their bag and walk away...fun for everyone.
