So, for those wondering why Tiger gets listed as an African-American instead of mentions to his other ancestry, Earl Woods wondered about it too. I'm presenting this simply as a statement he made on this topic, without any word as to my opinion on it.

From Golf Digest's "My Shot" article with him:
If you're seven-eighths Irish and one-eighth Indian, you're Irish. If you're seven-eighths Irish and one-eighth black, you're black. Why is that?

Golf Digest: My Shot: Earl Woods , third paragraph from the bottom.

I think my post may have been misinterpreted by some. I am fully aware that Tiger is not predominantly African-American. What I am saying is that the majority of people perceive him as African American.

Fuzzy Zeoller made his joke about "fried chicken and collard greens," not about Pad Thai.

Spend some time looking into American history if you really want to know why "1/8 Black + 7/8 anything else == Black", at least in USA.

Didn't you watch the Racial Draft on Chappelle Show... Tiger woods is black.... "So long fried rice. Hello fried chicken!"

haha of course kidding... i'm sure Tiger Woods has a lot invested in helping out fellow african-americans. But remember he's still an active professional, a lot of famous athletes wait til after they retire to put more of their own time rather than money.... i wish Anthony Kim could teach some fellow koreans to keep up with the pace of play and be more courteous to other players. Was watching Golf channel last night and they had a mini tour player stating thet Tiger should be doing more for black up and comming players. Then they asked Tiger and his answer was I do plenty thru my foundation. What do you think?Should he do more?Is he really obligated to do more?

But why only for blacks? I like how you exclude Asian in him.

Perception doesn't change the fact that he actually have more Asian in his blood than Black.

Who is this comment directed towards? The auto industry? The banking industry? Wall Street? In this entire thread, exactly who is not "taking responsibility for themselves?"

My question to all of this Bull---t is, why should any celebrity/athlete do a damn thing for anyone? They are the ones that worked on their game, used their talent, MADE THE CUT. To whom do they owe a damn thing?

One more question, how did Rush come into this conversation. It must be his love of golf and his participation as a trustee of the First Tee program.

I'm wondering when the monolithic group "black golfers" began questioning what Tiger should be doing at all? I sure didn't notice it. This entire post is off base from the get-go because the overwhelming number of Black golfers don't question Tiger's commitment to

any community.

Agreed.

Because many people think they're entitled to things nowadays and that others' owe them things.

We live in a very narcissistic age.

Change the title. It's extremely misleading.

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

well, as I say all the time "some people want everything from everyone" and feel entitled to it ..... I wish I could merit saying that every great White athlete owes me and all other white folk something, but I can't......and wouldn't feel that way anyhow

I am sick of people who think someone should do more for them. Tiger is a shining example of working hard and having it pay off. Everyone should learn from that and quit having their hands out all the time.

Getting better........

Keep in mind that Tiger probably does a lot through his foundation. However, teaching black kids how to play golf is not exactly the most urgent and pressing need on the planet right now. He could be pouring billions into Leukemia research for all we now, yet some jerk is belly aching about how Tiger isn't handing out free range coupons and lessons with Hank Haney.

This is nothing but a couple of bored journalists looking for something to write about. Next story.

I think its rediculous, hey I'm (insert race) and you are of the same race, give me a hand out.

Black people, brown people white people, are not going to make it unless they do it for them selves just because tiger comes and pats them on the back and says "Hey, good job for being black" re-goddamn-diculous...
