So, who's going to the U.S. Open this year?...

I'm still trying to persuade my Dad in taking me up to Long Island for the open. He doesn't really want to go because of the traffic (we live in Jersey) and just the overall cost and stress of attending a major sporting event...but I really want to go...I know it's going to be packed, and difficult to see with the crowds, but still...just to be at the atmosphere and say I went to a major championship is well worth it in my opinion.

I went to Winged Foot on Saturday a few years ago and it... was... Awesome. The crowds were not unbearable, and seeing all these famous players was so surreal. Only downside: Tiger missed the cut (but I saw him at Yankee stadium last year anyways!).

If you feel strongly about it you should just find a way and go. I'm sure it will be a great experience.

Well I guess my last option would be to go and just drive myself. I have had my drivers license for six months now, and I have my own car, it's just that none of my friends are able to go, and going by myself on a two-three hour drive in traffic would be pretty stressful. I've never really driven past an hour so I really wanted to avoid going alone, haha...

So, who's going to the U.S. Open this year?...

It is worth it; you have to get him to take you. One of my best golf memories is my father taking to the 1980 U.S. Open at Baltusrol. He even let me follow Arnie in the morning by myself as he wanted to watch specific holes. We met for lunch and then I followed Jack for 18 in the afternoon!

Unforunately, I caddied for my brother in the US Open Qualifier and we missed it by 2 measely strokes, so we'll be watching on TV...

For those lucky enough to go to NY and watch the open, have fun it's going to be a great tournament again there

So, who's going to the U.S. Open this year?...

I am going to the practice rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday and will get to the course at 6 AM before they even check for tickets. Practice rounds are fun, and I will take pictures both days.

I'll find out this Monday if I get to attend this years Open. I'm playing in sectionals in Dallas, Tx. There are 36 of us playing for 2 or 3 spots. I'd love to go.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

Anyone who has the opportunity should go. The course is a great test, and is a monster in terms of length. Image such a nice course being owned by the State of New York, and the green fees are reasonable. A local guy, Craig Currier, is still the Head Superintendent. He grew up in Central New York on the family farm, but played golf at Cedar Lake, a private course, which has hosted a number of New York State Golf Association tournaments. It is in great shape, and Craig was inspired to go into the business by growing up there.

I can comfirm what i said, i convinced my dad! I just got the tickets on stubhub.com. Does anyone know how reliable this website is? Regardless, i am very excited, cannot wait to see everyone in action for the first time since last august at the deutsche bank.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
