i tell myself to swing like Zach Johnson as one of my many swing thoughts. No one's ever mistaken me for him, though. :)

so do you "double pump" your driver follow-through like her? I think that's a cool stylism she has.

There's a kid at my club that thinks I swing like Geoff Ogivly. I dunno though. He's the only one that has made a comparison recently.

Wait a minute...you don't count, you are a Pro!!

Me on the other hand...I have been told I play like Crap, is that a Pro??

My swing has never been compared to a pros. My swing is pretty traditional and boring. Pretty much just back and through. There isnt any style in it..lol.

Ok, I've researched it a bit and heres my whole swing:

-Phil Mickelson at setup

-Tiger Woods at impact

-Justin Leonard through impact

-Arnold Palmer Finish

And a little bit of a head dip during the backswing- I forget who does that. If I get any of those guys as a compliment, then I'm all set ;)

I get called Tiger a lot, cause of my long drives, and fast swing and finish. I dont resemble tiger in anyway. well maybe body size and shape, but I'm white and dont wear red shirts.

I've been told I look like particular professionals. See my signature for an enumeration.

I was once joined by someone for the 18th hole, a reasonably long par-5. I had already hit my tee shot, so the guy joining didn't see that I hit from the white tees. My drive was in the fairway, and I went on to make a tap-in par. He saw my hat and asked if I was a "USGA Pro". I told him no, I just like the hat.

i've been referred to as john daly a couple of times by less than stellar players. i'll hit a drive that isn't even hugely long, maybe 280, and they'll be like, WOW! john daly over here! i've got a bit of a similar build to daly, unfortunately (trying to work that off currently), and i live in arkansas, so i guess that's where it comes from.

thankfully i don't share daly's penchants for drinking and gambling.

I once dated a girl people kept telling me was a pro. Does that count?

As far as the look-a-like: with a little effort I could win a Chevy Chase contest (it couldn't be Brad Pitt or Carey Grant, nooooooooooo.) Last week (just last week), someone said to my wife: "Aren't you the woman married to the guy that looks like Chevy Chase?" Ugh.

My wife's sister has had people ask for her autograph, thinking she was Kim Bassinger.

I got 63 stableforth points on my first competition match at the age of 15. (3 weeks ago). And I'm NOT on the first, but the second golf team although it's still all stableforth.

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
