Seriously. A round of golf is like 4+ hours of lifting concrete blocks, I'm completely spent when I'm done.

I can't hit a fairway if my life depended on it, no matter what club, it's beginning to have a negative psychologial effect on me I think, and off the course.

I scramble my butt off non-stop. It's getting kind of tiring. LOL. My friends are starting to make up names for my style of play. For instance a "Dan-par." (my name is Dan).
An example of a Dan-par is when you blow your drive way into the woods, hang upside from a tree branch to hit your second - somehow punch it out into a playable position. Hit third shot onto the green and then role the 15 footer in for par. Ugly - that's me.
My last round on the 10th hole I hit a drive that landed on the tee box of the 12th hole. Played a 5 iron from there over the fairway, almost OB. Then hit a 60 degree from the rough from maybe 40 yards to about 2 feet. My playing partners were just laughing at me as they lined up their birdie putts.

One day I tells ya - one day I will learn how to hit fairways. Yeah, then I'll be good.

The scorecard doesn't care how you make the 4. Fewer things can bug an opponent more than someone who can make a par from all over the course while they make bogey from the fairway. I say go with it.

Kinda in the same boat. I made 2 or 3 of those yesterday and watched the guys I was playing with shake their heads

Exactly what I was going to say. A par is a par no matter how you got there. Be happy at the fact that you're not "Dan-Double-Bogey"

I find those par saves to be much more fun (and a great confidence boost too) than to have a 'routine' tap in for par. My $0.02 anyway.

Edit - plus, learning how to make par from jail is how you get REALLY REALLY good. I mean don't ya just shake your head in disbelief when you see Tiger or Phil make par from an improbable position?

Very true. I play Nassau's vs my bro-in-law all the time. Just when he thinks he has me on a hole.......

Hey man, there is honor in being a scrambler. Cuz im one of them...I probably hit more fairways than you, but i keep my scores where they are by saving pars, not so much making birdies. I probably average less than 2 birdies a round. Dont fight who you are grasshoppa, embrace the scramble.

i do the same thing lol my driver hates me lol thats why i play very workable irons theres never any telling wat i have to do to that ball

      The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO

      Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.

      Day 136 12-26 Had a different practice planned today but life happened. Worked on "wide to wide" and still working on remaining flowy. Starting the club head in front of the ball as a drill, is helping with the flow of the swing.
