I just picked up a new Burner Draw 9.5 stiff and WOW I never thought i'd lose my slice but its gone. My ball usually would turn at about 150 yards to the right hard on most every drive. I worked on many different stances, grips, adjusted thw swing, and it always seemed to come back.I didn't expect the Burner to help as much as it did,but the ball flies very straight about 85% of the time now. Could the stiff shaft have something to do with it also,or was it just the closed club face? My swing speed is 104 mph,and I was hitting my 10.5 loft driver to high, now it seems to have a very good height(i'll actually get some roll now) with the 9.5 I have tried a few different drivers but think i'm kicking the wife out of bed and sleeping next to the burner from now on.

I think the correct title should be "Burner draw driver hides my slice!"

Probably your swingpath is still the same as before, but the because of the closed face on the draw club you're hitting the ball with a squarer face...?

I have read and watched vids also as well as spent countless $$$ at the range and everytime I thought I had it cured it would come back. That is true "hide" not cure but as long as its going straight down the fairway or a slight draw sometimes i'm happy. It's nice not to have to aim 2 fairways to the right, land on the leftside of my fairway just to watch it roll off the right hand side.

A club will not "fix" a slice, a club can camoflage a slice. My prediction is that even with the closed face (what, maybe 1/2 to 1-degree closed?), your slice may return.

As you read, watch, learn, apply and make adjustments, strive for an improved swing. Even with the draw bias of the Burner, a good swing will still go straighter. And perhaps farther.

What I'm trying to say is, do not think that all is cured. Strive for improvements and a better swing ALL THE TIME. Golf is about improving. The instant we get complacent, we suck again!!! In my humble opinion ... :^)

The driver may mask your slice, but you've got at least 10 other clubs in the bag you probably want to hit straight. You might just as well take a stronger grip, it will probably "cure" the slice just as much.

yknow, I figured out a big problem of mine was poor setup (my feet were standing open while I was aiming properly -- I was setting up for a very hard fade)...something I never really figured out without spending time with a shaft at my feet at the range making sure my feet didn't stand open.

something to try, at least. it was a combination of common slice causes (cupping wrists, lack of release, weak grip, etc) that caused mine.

104mph ss with a reg shaft might not unload fully and your head would be open = slice. A stiff shaft could make a big difference. Did you try any neutral bias head with a stiff shaft? You might like those results too.

Here are my 2 cents:

I recently tried the regular burner and it was a consistent 10 - 15 left of center. It has a 1* closed face, and it does try to correct errant hits. The issue that I had with it was that It makes it very difficult to try to shape a shot with this driver. Granted, it could be my lack of ability, but is what I conticed. As for line drives, it does deliver very well.

With that said. I have corrected some of my slicing problems through setup. Being a beginner, the ultimate goal for most amatures is to kill the ball off the tee. So when I read that if I set the ball a little further ahead in my stance, I could gain an addition 15 - 20 yards. And quite frankly...it's true, but you have to hit just right. Whne I made clean square contact, it flew flew a good 250 - 260, but more often than not I was hitting 240 forward, and about 150 right!!!!!

I changed my driver to a r7 cbg Max, and had to make a few adjustments. I now tee the ball inside my left heel. I have a little more control with small fades/hooks, but it too has a tendency to draw 10-15 yards off center. When I try to go straight, It ussually goes 10-15 left. I can live with that!!!

Bottom line, it's good to have a driver that 1) raises your confidence, 2) becomes more predictable.

Personally, I would not buy a "draw" type club bcs it's too much help, but I see nothing wrong with buying a driver that better suits your style be it square faced, open or closed.
It's the indian, not the arrow! But it sure is nice to have good arrows!!!!!

There is no doubt the shaft is helping very much, too. The shaft stiffness is working in conjunction with the closed face to square you up a little better at impact.

It is cool. You had an issue and improved it with a well selected club.

In time, though, don't be surprised if you do fix the slice overall as you'll need to do in order to get the most out of the other clubs in your bag.

At least, for now, you are starting off the holes in much better positions.

The goal is to have fun and you can certainly do more of that from the correct fairway.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
