2 Questions for low handicappers....

1 - what are your thoughts in general on this article/method?

2 - I think I understand most of how this is supposed to work, but from that impact position, my wrists seem to resist rolling over. In other words, getting from the first pic to the second pic is not smooth for me. Any advice here?

Been playing just a few months but I play almost every day.

What's in my bag: Distance Master Driver, Maltby Trouble Out woods/hybrids, Maltby KE4 Irons (all assembled by me so I can never blame my equipment).

It works. I discovered this some days ago and has since sliced maybe 2 shots on the course. I have however developed a tendency to hook the shots, not preferable, but better than slicing anyways. I'm working on getting it square.

I wouldn't say hooking is better. My scores have gotten a lot worse with hooking the ball because once they get to the trees they keep going

Depends a lot of what course you normally play. On mine I definately want a hook rather than a slice. The hook is also less pronounced. I think it's better because it shows I'm doing something different and finally managed to get rid of the slice I've been hitting for the last...5, 6 years. I also think it's easier to work back to a square clubface from a closed than an open.

I'm not going to settle for a hook, so it won't call it a wanted shot, my goal is square. I've also got a slightly in-to-out swingpath, so a slice goes further off the line than my hook, which comes back over.

Exaggerated positions. Sometimes exaggeration works to get the feel for something. After you get the feel, then you need to tone it back to more natural positions. JMO

In the first photo in your post, I think his hips are not turned enough and his hands are too far forward at that point after impact.

well, looks fairly straight forward to me. the only thing is, if you don't yet know how to control your clubface with your wrists, which is particularly hard at any level, you might very well start hooking the ball dreadfully.

Keep a soft left elbow in your follow through. It should stay pretty close to your side and you shouldn't have a problem getting in that position. Your follow through should almost mimic your back swing (straight left, bent right on back swing, and straight right and bent left on follow through.)

I do think the photo's are exaggerated, but as far as what the wrist and forearm should do at contact and after are correct.

He is also staying on his right side and not shifting his weight. This will create a hook every time and most often a pull hook.

In my bag:
Driver: R5 TP Diamana 83s Shaft
Fairway: Burner 15 degree Fujikura REAX
Hybrid: Custom 19 degree
Irons: DCI 990 S300 4-PW

Wedges: NF 52.04*, Spin Milled 56.10* and 60.08*

Putter: Red X3

Ball: ProV1

Shoe: Tour 360 LTD

I think Lee Trevino said "you can talk to a slice but a hook won't listen".

    • Day 121: did a bit of mirror work with my driver. Working on shortening the backswing.
    • Day 305 - Grip and backswing work. Full swings were bothering the hip a bit.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
