I think short game is the bigger issue. Its so hard to be precise rolling the ball from your hand.

Maybe you should bet on 9 holes to limit the pitch count and thus the danger of this experiment.

Take the bet. He'd have to average 7 to win (126). I don't think he gets that done well at all. How far can you throw a golf ball? It's not as far as you'd think. If it's 100 yards (it's not), that will already put him at five just to get on the greens of the par fives. Four to get on the greens near par fours.

You are right, 50 for most people, maybe 75.

Quick related story: Last year in our league we played a course that, from the white tees, had a very short par 3. (approx 100-105 yards depending on where the tees were). Standing on the tee box it always looked so short! I made the comment about it being the length of a football field and how it is considered amazing when a QB throws the ball 60+ yards in the air. I said it seems like some of the big guns (Peyton, Brady, McNabb etc) should be able to stand on this tee box and throw a football to the green (obviously they can't). That led to a discussion about how far someone could throw a golf ball. So after we hit, we all took one ball out of our bag and gave it our best. 3 of us were not even close (a good 30+ yards short). One guy got pretty close but not on. And we all threw from the front of the tee box too. We all had very sore arms and one guy still claims he has arm problems from that throw. LOL I say the guy maybe breaks 150 if he's lucky. Disclaimer: Don't worry everyone, there was nobody behind us so we didn't slow the course down with our 2 minute diversion!

130 people should throw golf balls at this guy’s groin.

From the 1987 Guinness Book of Records:

"The lowest recorded score for throwing a golf ball round 18 holes (over 6000 yd or 5500 m ) is 82 by Joe Flynn (USA), 21, at the 6228 yd 5694 m Port Royal Course, Bermuda, on 27 Mar 1975"
(p. 257)

So for all you naysayers, yes it can be done, and quite well in fact.

you would be hard pressed to throw the ball that hard for that long, but I do know a guy that can throw a golf ball over 100 yards with roll. On a 520 yrd par 5 over water, he bet he could throw it on the green in par. He made very easy. holing a putt would be the hard part.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

Take that bet. I am almost positive he will not win. For one, it's hard to throw a golf ball even close to 100 yards. Yet after a few holes your arm would kill and every throw would be less distance. Take the bet.

I think i could do it. If youre not using clubs, then i would also assume the rules of golf are not applying. So i could do whatever i wanted, technically. (Throw it down a road, cartpath, etc) But my shoulder would probably be sore for a week afterwards.

I think it could be done, not sure if that guy could do it. The keys in my mind would be to make sure the course was less than 6500 yards and no gimmicky holes like 140yd island holes. Here is my rational

Avg throw of 70yds - Total distance of 6500 yards = Roughly 93 strokes + 2 rolls per hole avg = 129

It would be possible, difficult but possible. If the course is shorter, closer to 6000 yards, and he can avg 80 yards per throw, he'd be looking at 111 with 2 rolls per hole for putting.

The benefits are that it should be much easier to avoid ending up out in the trees, and the rough and sand traps wouldn't hurt you since you pick up the ball and throw it. Shots/throws close to the green would be easy to get close to the pin. I think you could reasonably 1 roll alot if you can get the ball within 5-8feet everytime.

Sounds like a fun game to play some weekday when the course is slow.

Total yardage doesn't tell the story though. Remember, on a 370 yd par 4, at 70 yds per throw, it's still going to take you 6 throws to reach the green....because your 5th throw will come up short. A better way to break it down would be as follows: 10 par 4's over 350 yds each = 60 throws minumum 4 par 5's over 490 yds each = 28 throws minumum 4 par 3's over 140 yds each = 12 throws minumum Total = 100 throws minimum. Add 2 "putts" per hole and you're at 136.......and I'll bet that you can't average 2 "putts" per hole either. Nope, find me someone willing to try it and I'll buy the beer and drive the cart if they'll actually bet me.
