and shot a huge number. Feel like you could have played ten strokes less so easily? Just want to make sure i'm not the only one.

Yes. Last week I had the "power draws" off the tee with Driver, 3w and 3h but everything else was working well. I ended up making bogey on two holes after hitting snap hook ob first drives (so would have been birdies). Managed to shoot a 94 despite only hitting 5 drives in the fairway, and that included 3 snowmen (posted a 91 thanks to ESC)!!! Great scrambling and recovery shots, and pretty strong putting as well.

Felt like if I had hit my tee shots in play would have shot mid/low 80s.

same with me exactly. My woods were terrible, nice loopy left to right shots. Everything else was great except my putter. I need a new one though, I'm seriously considering chopping it into little tiny pieces and burning them.

Yes and it really hurt me a lot. I like how I hit my irons, I think it's the best part of my game, problem is the tee, that day it simply didn't work. I made 27 putts, no hole-outs, irons shots were good but the tee... the tee... the tee... everything was going right so I ended O.B. most of the time and that killed my game.

Cheers!

Yea happens to me. Normally when one part of my game is a bit off but all the other parts feel good.

They say golf is like life, but don't believe them. Golf is more complicated than that.

Happening a lot recently.

Went to play a really fun 7000 yard course with par 4s as long as the par 5s I'm used to playing. (It had a 250 yard par 3 surrounded by tons of trouble too!) Anyway, I just recently figured out how to cream drives at least 250.... and could get a couple about 300 if I really got a hold of it. Thing is I had horrible control as it was a new swing. I shot high 90s but AT LEAST 10 strokes were just penalty strokes. Really fun time.

THEN, tried toning down the drives a bit.... since I finally found the power (i didnt care about accuracy anymore) I could go back on working on controlling the power. Anyway.... I hit about 9 GIR...... but never putted so bad in my life. I had 5 3 putts in the front 9! Definitely a new frustration that really took the fun out of hitting GIR (funnest thing in golf for me). If I could have just putted decent, I should have easily had 5 strokes less. as I was about 7-8 strokes above my average per round.

Yes. I shot a 91 in a tournament a little over a month ago. I hit the ball fairly well, not great by any means, but not even CLOSE to what my score indicates. I had like 38 putts.

I can laugh about it now though.

This happened to me today. Hit the ball as good as ever. Had total control with a good number of shots today. Felt really really great. But, only come in at 3 over. The bad shots were costly. Hit a ball OB. Didn't get up and down a few times. I think the biggest error of today was putting. I was so excited about how well I was hitting the ball, that I just didn't care about putts. haha. I guess I can live with that. It was just a round for fun today anyway. But, I did drain a great putt for birdie on 18. Actually concentrated on a putt and drained it. So there was that too. Yay golf.

That course sounds pretty fun. What's it called and where?

Absolutely. Many times. I've had rounds where I struck the ball really well and scored horribly. I've also had times where I struck it horribly and came out with a low score. That's golf.

which course is that? is it in dallas?

Yeah... I really enjoyed it. I played it while visiting my brother in Houston. The course is technically in Pearland, TX.... but it's basically a houston course. It's called Southwyck. Supposed to be part of the Arnold Palmer golf management company or whatever. Great deals too! We played it for $25 each on a weekday morning... included the cart, greens fee, and lunch. Kinda links style.... which was fun considering we played when the british open was going on.

The funnest part was the really easy holes were suuuuuuuper "risk-reward".... going for it was definitely a viable option enough to tempt even the most level headed golfer!

One of the great challenges of this game.. the diversity of shots. I'm only a beginner but it seems if one part of my game is "on" then the other is "off." How do we become better all around players? Hell I dunno, it is frustrating to me as well. I would say that a few things that help are practice swings (always take one!), visualization, and relaxation. Sometimes we get so caught up in the moment we want to rush to the next success and keep repeating the same mistakes.

Happens time all the time. Usually it's when my putting is off. I played a few weeks ago and had putts for par on the first 5 holes and ended up with four double bogeys.

THis is what separates the good players from the masses.

You can play really well for 80% of your shots and get away with a few one putts and poor drives that leave you in an OK position. But.....it's how bad your bad shots are. And....unfortunately, three bad swings can easily add six shots to your score. Answer? Those 10 shots you mention are not easy to eradicate. It's easy to think "If those three crap drives had been in an OK position rather than OB or under trees I would have shot x, but the fact is those drives were crap and you have to pay. Every pro could say they could have had 65 every round but for a few missed putts or an errant drive. That's why it's OK for us to focus on HOW we played rather than the score sometimes, because you can be unnecessarily hard on yourself. Those 10 shots mount up quickly. The scorecard does lie sometimes!

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

This has happened to me quite frequently.I now realise ballstriking doesn't always relate to scoring.I shot 103 but had 10 penalty strokes due to lost balls.Of those only 2 were poorly struck tee shots.

Still the scorecard says 103,so really I have a problem with ball flight because when you lose a ball it's often found rough.Keep it in the fairway and I won't lose balls easier said than done because pro's find the rough too but have 20 people looking for there ball. It's tough on us because were already shooting higher scores but I just have to shrug my shoulders if I can't find a ball and take the penalty.

memorial day weekend... friday day night went out over did it and forgot I was playing with my bro-in-law and our friend at 830. Felt awful the whole round but I had 13 birdie putts inside 15 feet. I made 1 and 3 jacked 2 of them but that was one of my best ball striking rounds ever.

That sounds like my experience every week. I'm hitting the ball really well (for me), but just can't chip and putt well enough to turn in a good score. My biggest problem is that I'd rather play than practice.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
