Well you're original post come off like you were maybe bragging abit, but after further investigation, and by your reply here, sounds like the 9.6 is wrong.

Yeh srry if i came off as bragging at first, i promise i am far from it and am humble to all suggestions. But i have always wondered, what effect does a person's handicap have in a tournament? Are higher handicap players spotted strokes or do like handicap players only play like handicappers?

Well, when I held my GHIN, I was entering amateur tournaments, and we had several different "flights" based on your handicap.

So, if you were: 0-5 HC Flight #1 6-10 HC Flight #2 11-15 HC Fight #3 So you only play against players with your skill. But in general, your handicap is used to calculate your total score, to make everything even playing field.

To avoid any disrespect to low handicappers, i changed my listed handicap to 20. I believe this to be closer to my true hanidcap anyway. I will update it weekly though as i add more rounds.

Hey, if you are entering rounds and keeping up with your handicap, then it is what it is. When I first started keeping mine, it was really low as well but it has gradually risen to where I actually play. If you only have 2 or 3 scores and your handicap is showing as 9.6, keep 9.6 in your details. It won't offend us, I promise

I mean, that is your handicap for right now, so don't feel bad posting it.....just don't deel bad when it goes up from there

If you are good you're good. But some people just have to work harder for it.

I have a friend who was a pro hockey player. Never picked up a club in his life. I took him out on the course for shits and giggles. The guy shot 2 under par, and if he had been able to put probably would have been 4 strokes less. and no his name was not happy gilmore.!

I have no doubt that an athletic person such as a pro hockey player could indeed reliably hit a golf ball, without any training or lessons.

What I don't understand - if he never played before, how did he handle club selection and distances? In other words, when he was at the 150-yard marker (for example), how did he know what club to choose? I'm thinking you helped him in that department, eh?

If this thread is valid, props to the OP, but I still remain unconvinced. Same goes with the one talking about a person never played golf before shooting 37 on his first front nine.

Well I gave him the line on the greens, and showed him a proper putting stroke...

but the guy could loft or deloft a club to his liking, played mostly by feel off the fairway. No joke he only mishit one or two balls, everything else was dead center on the clubface. Was frustrating for me to say the least, yet a marvelous thing to watch. I don't think the he has played since either. Although I havent spoken to him in a couple of years. If I had been him I would've picked up golf as profession honestly... Although you never know if once he took it up and tried to learn technique he would have screwed his feeling up. When I see things like this happen, it brings me back to how much of this damn game is feeling and mental fortitude. Kind of a spit in the eye to all the fundamental swing theory I have learned over the years.

The fundamental swing theory stuff sets you up to have the mental fortitude and feeling. You know you can always rely on it and it helps you get your swing together, building confidence, etc.

I know it is hard to believe... I dont think I would believe it myself if I hadnt seen it with my own two eyes.

So I don't blame you for trying.

    • Day 316 - More swings, full backswing and full finish.
    • Day 132: did some mirror work while watching TV. Worked on backswing stuff primarily.
    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
