Am I one of the last people on earth who plays without a glove? I never paid much attention to other people wearing gloves until a guy asked me yesterday where my glove was. When I told him I don't play with one, all I got was a blank stare, like if I'd said I use rocks for balls.

Freddie Couple plays without a glove as do other pros. It just means your grip pressure is light enough (which is good) to not to cause callus. I wish I could play without a glove, but I would have a huge callus on my hand.

Just went gloveless starting this year. Started with my forgetting it one day, and I just never looked back. I've been putting gloveless for a while, so now it's even less worry not to have to put it on and take it off all day.

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

It doesn't really have anything to do with grip pressure so much as grip. Gloves are worn because they grip better than your hand does. On a range they're nice because yes, your left hand can start to get a little sore if you hit a couple hundred balls.

But I use mine because of the vastly superior grip and it makes my left hand a little bigger making my hands come together better.

I only wear a glove at the range or if it's so hot my hands are sweaty (causing the club to slip). I prefer not to wear a glove.

I have some calluses on my hands from golf though. Oh well...

You use rocks for balls? *blank stare*

I've found that a worn out glove that has already stretched is about useless, so in times like that I'd prefer no glove. But a new glove when my hands aren't sweaty lets me keep my grip pressure at probably a 1 out of 10 (or what feels like that anyway). It gives me confidence that the club isn't going to fly away, which keeps it lighter throughout the swing and lets me release it better. I get a lot more distance with a new glove because of this. Once I walked into a meeting with a golf glove in my back pocket leftover from a lunchtime round. I got up to do some drawing on the whiteboard and someone interrupted me and said, "Is that a golfing glove in your pocket?" I almost crapped my pants out of embarrassment. I'd consider going without a glove just to avoid situations like that.

my hands sweat. A LOT. I wear a glove to combat that. I dont' worrya bout calluses that much. My hands rarely blister

Crapping your pants in the meeting would be far more embarrassing.

no glove here
have rain gloves in the bag that are brand new and never used
GP New Decade Grips are key - super tacky and even better the hotter out it is

I never used to wear gloves, but when I went to school in georgia, I had to start because it was so warm. But I do remember the odd reactions some would give... Once in a while on a cool fall day i'll still leave out the glove though.

That's the spirit!

And thanks for the tip. (After any lunchtime practice, the glove goes on the car seat, floor or door pocket.)

I haven't worn a glove in at least 15 years. Just seems like an unnecessary expense in a game that already costs a lot to play. And I've played in Florida humidity without one, so it

can be done.

I wear one at the range , funny thing is at the first tee when I'm getting the ball marker, divot tool and tee's from the bag I always grab the glove, put it on and play the first hole with it, then while putting I take it off stick it in my back pocket and it seems to stay there the rest of the round. I switched to the Golf Pride multicompound grips this year and don't really need a glove with the cord end under my left hand. I think it's a matter of follow the leader on the first tee as everyone I play with put's one on so I do it to I guess look like the others, heck I don't know, just know I really don't need one.

glove - my grip pressure is too much; thus my handicap

I feel like the club will fly out of my hands on full swings if I don't use a glove.

I take it off for anything inside 80 yards or so, though.

I used to play without a glove. Now I have to use one cause I'm starting to progressively sweat in my palms, which is really annoying. Left hand is the most important whilst gripping so I basically use my glove as a sweat guard.

    • That’s a 19th hole story that would be recounted for many, many moons to come for sure…..
    • I know. I was just kidding. BTW - I'd take the second place with the meltdown. It would at least make a good story.
    • That answers my question.  That feels more natural to me. I'll work on that. Thanks
    • Complex question. Good players begin pushing forward around P2. Visibly around P3. They're well on their way forward at P4.
    • Still plugging away with the teacher.  I do have a question after working on some drills last night. This is something I should know already but for some reason, I have gotten myself confused. It deals with weight transfer on the downswing. At what point, should that take place?  Should it be early (prior to reaching A4) ?  I ask because in one of my drills  I get to A4, I feel the weight transfer AS my arms drop, and then go.  Now this may be totally normal, but I "feel" like this gets me in a weird timing position and causes me to try and do too much at once.
