I think I really need to modify my bag to match yours more. I have unnecessary fairway woods, long irons, and hybrids in my bag. I hit my 4 iron 200 yds, the same as my hybrid 4. I really need to give up the long clubs since 200yds seems to be standard and get a couple of wedges.

Anyhow, your collection looks well thought out.

Thanks Pat.

I used to carry Driver, 3w, 5w, 4h. but i couldn't hit my 3w from fairway consistently.. i very seldom need a 3W off the tee thanks to my forgiving driver. so i decided to take it out of the bag and add a GW. i miss the greens a lot, and the 4 wedges help me with more choices (loft and bounce).

I carry 13 "typical" clubs. Driver (10.5*), 3-wood (14*) both Taylormade R7's. 3-PW Taylormade RAC MB blades, 56/60 RAC wedges, and a bargain bin putter.

#14 is a 4-iron I pulled out of an old set.

From time to time I find the woods, and then once I get to the ball I find a way out. I love my blades and I paid enough for them that I'm slightly reluctant to slam one of them into the Earth trying to punch out to the fairway because Im too human to just go drop and take th stroke. Hence the beat up 4i. I have no need for another wedge really, and theres only about 15yd between my 3i and 3-wood on normal swings so I like knowing that theres at least one club in the bag willing to die for me if it means saving a stroke and getting the chance to be a hero.

The bag:

Driver: Taylormade R7 Limited (10.5*)
3-wood: Taylormade R7 st (15*)
5-wood: Titleist 909 F2(18.5*)Irons: Taylormade RAC TP MB; Project-X 6.0 (3-PW)Wedges: Vokey Spin-Milled 52.08 Vokey Spin-Milled 58.12Putter: Odyssey White Hot Tour #1 (33")Ball: Titleist ProV1

See my sig below. I am carrying the full amount because it's better to have the club you need than be playing and be without it. Take full advantage of the rule!

I just started playing again after a five year layoff, so the irons, wedges, and three wood are fairly old. I'll probably upgrade the wedges and switch to a 54/60 combo with more bounce when I can justify the expense.

Does anyone carry a 1 iron besides me? I have:

Driver
3W (never use)
5W (never use)
1 iron
3-SW
putter

I'm looking to get new clubs in the Spring, perhaps, and get rid of the fairway woods and add some more wedges. I've had this set up so long that i've been able to work around the "holes" in the bag. I'm long off the tee and reallt dont need those fairway woods. I guess i've just gotten complacent and never thought of making a change until recently

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
