I feel like cobra irons are underplayed. I swung the S2s and they are pretty nice, but were a little too pricey for me at the time. You really NEVER see cobras at the range/course, at least I have yet to so far.

My question is, who plays these irons (besides Villegas, I mean play style)? They don't seem to make any irons that really directly compete with anyone else, just kinda expensive cavity backs which is why I wonder why someone would buy them.

I think most would rather play Titleist if your paying the same cash for the forged irons. I am pretty brand loyal to the Acushnet Co. myself.

I play with FP's.
They're forgiving and long.

I'd say check out the SZ's they're the upgraded version and I don't think would be too expensive.

Cobra isnt all that well known simply because Acushnet markets their Titleist brand much more than the Cobra brand.
Cobra is kind of their entry level/budget line of clubs.

I was considering Cobra irons a little over a year and a half ago. I think I was looking at the FPs, back when I thought game improvement would be my second set.

I decided against it for many reasons. First, I was already iffy about the incredibly strong lofts in these clubs. Second, I was deciding between the GI iron and the cavity-back players' iron, but every time I was at a demo day, the Cobra Representative would try to sell me on the UFI, even though I had stated each time that I was looking to go the other way on clubs.

I don't remember the FPs being more expensive than other game improvement irons I was considering. I liked the Cobra fairway woods and hybrids I was gaming at the time. The big deal breaker for me was the representative trying to get me to try clubs that I had expressed no interest in.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Their drivers seem to have a pretty good reputation but you don't see their irons much, occasionally I'll see an older set of Cobras in someone's bag but I hardly ever see newer ones. I guess better golfers are going to be more geared towards the Titleist brand, Acushnet sure markets it more.

I play the SZ's, and love them! I've never hit any of cobra's woods, but I'd definately like to, given the performance of my irons.

Bring back from DEAD....

Has any one hit Cobra Gravity Irons? I know they are old but I got a set for free and was wondering how they are?

The SZ Forged are a real nice set, just need to add something resembling a normal pitching wedge (47-49*).

If I end up liking the proCB or proMB more this year, I might get them, they are some slick looking irons. Last year they had their demo day the week before I stopped by :(

I really enjoy my cobra irons. It should not matter what pro's use them, just get a set of irons that fits you and is in your price range.

Ogilvy switched to Titleist this year, also, I read a couple of weeks ago that Acushnet is selling off the Cobra brand to Puma. Did anybody else read this?

I think the sell is all but done. I think it will be great for the Cobra line Puma has wanted to get a good name in golf and now has it. The only question that I have is how long will it take them to get a good R & D department up and going?

I recently purchased and now play the Cobra S2 Forged irons. I LOVE them. Perfect blend of of forged feel/look with a bit of game improvement feature built in.

How much R&D; does it take to make all the lofts 2 irons stronger? It's like having guitar amps that go up to 11.

Now, if they were pressurizing the heads with Nitrogen (or maybe Argon), they'd really be onto something!

I agree Snowman! I've had mine since Christmas time and I love love love these irons. I hit them literally side by side with the Titleist AP2s while I was researching a new set and could not feel or see a bit of difference between the two other than the $200 increase in the price of the AP2s. I strongly advise anyone in the market for a new set of irons to give these a shot. They look slick as hell and they feel like pure butter when you hit them. Hit them side by side with another set of irons like I did and I think you will be pleasantly surprise.
