No one can hit a 9 iron 195 yds or a 4 iron 248 yds. It's just not humanly possible, thats why I contend he is a robot from outer space or an alien from some unknown planet.

Be careful or Cody will just insist he's on steroids.

P.S. I thought the 9-iron was 175 yards.

How about 282 yards with a 3-wood from the deck at Doral this year. I think it was 282....he's not a robot, just super-human.

I think the "Tiger on steroids" thing has already been blown out of proportion. Tiger is really the guy who started the improved workout theory, and he is one of the best-built golfers in the world. I just said he would be one of the first guys mentioned if steroid testing was approved.

There isn't a doubt in my mind that Tiger is clean, so let's leave that alone for a little while. There are a lot of golfers who can hit the ball as far as Tiger does with drivers, irons, etc. However, there isn't anyone in the world that can hit them as long and accurate as Eldrick. We all found out Tiger was out of this world when he blew away the field at the 1997 Masters.

or maybe its those nike clubs he is using that are souped up...

now wouldnt that be interesting, if golfers started "souping" up their clubs and stuff to make them go farther, if thats even possible.

Maybe he has special balls made up to go futher! Baseball has a bunch of followers that believe the ball was juiced up a number of years back, thus all the home runs. Now, the steroid theory might be right in that instance!

If by "souped up," do you mean forged blades that are set to the same lofts as when he was 14? Translation: Tiger's 9-iron has more loft than Phil Mickelson's pitching wedge.

Save for his Sasquatch driver (which iacas provides a great review for), Tiger's set may be the least technologically advanced set on tour. So, not quite sure what you mean by "souped up." Please clarify.

I am choosing to believe that he was trying to be sarcasatic.

And Cody, I was just picking on you, not seriously trying to say that I think that you think Tiger's on drugs. As I mentioned to Rafi, and as I know you know, Tiger is looking at a 20 to 30 year career, and I don't think he'd do anything to jeopardize any of those years. Baseball and football players can get away with drug use because their careers are so short.

It is not the length Tiger has that amazes me as much as it is the phenomenal shotmaking. I have seen most pro golfers make some really amazing shots, but never so many, so often, so well. A few years ago, one of the Golf Magazines asked 30 of the top PGA players to describe the best shot they saw the previous year. Out of the 30, only a few pick a shot other than one of Tiger's. And what was so unexpected was that very few of them picked the same shot.

I remember watching a tournament on TV a few years back where Tiger hit a 3 iron downhill 264 that faded into a pin tucked back right on a green and leaving it within 10 ft. I actually stood up with my jaw dropping and said something to the effect, "That is just NOT f****** possible." There was no one in the room but me, but the effect was just so electric, I actually spoke it outloud.

He's just not afraid to hit the shots or try hitting them when they count, He wants to awe you and beat the crap outta of you on the course. Some of the guys try the same shots in the practice rounds and even try hitting shots tiger hit during previous matches.

We're seeing a bit of that today, aren't we? He's got his entire game going...and it is a pleasure to watch.

Most of us recreational players are naturally impressed by distance. But, I'll bet when faced with a shot of 180 yds a majority of PGA cardholders could probably play any club in their bag.

Bury me with a golf glove in my pocket - just in case!

During a practice round once, Ben Hogan was in the fairway about 150 out when someone asked him what club he would play for this shot. Mr. Hogan emtied his clubs on the ground and played the shot with each one of them.

Still, when I say "shotmaking", I mean absolute control of his golf ball. He can choose from a myriad of shots and make the ball do as he wishes better than anyone else I have ever seen. And, yes, he does have the courage to hit those incredible shots in the heat of battle with the whole enchilada on the line. (Remember the 217 out of the bunker over the lake at the PGA against Bob May?) I am not sure I would have had the courage to try that shot with nothing but my potential embarrassment on the line, much less almost a million bucks.

I believe that was a Canadian Open...

I don't remember much water on the 18th at Valhalla. There's a little, but not "much." http://www.rydercup.com/2008/course/hole_18.html

    • I know you guys were discussing this like a year ago. But, ironically I just had this discussion with my brother-in-law. We literally just did one of these. I'd always used the "Slow-Cook, Rest, and Sear" Method. But my bother-in-law was convinced the "5-Min/lb, 500 degree" method was the way. So, we gave it a go. I have to say it came out great.  I have a 25 year old, electric oven, GE brand... Not sure if that matters, but it came out great. ... Of course we stressed that nobody was to open the oven.   I don't make these all that often so, I'm not sure if I can fully recommend one method or the other, because without doing a Pepsi Challenge, I'd say both ways come out great. 👍😁👍
