Opening a gym and thinking of having a golf fitness group class. Wondering how many golfers would be interested in something like that. Class would be 3 days a week for an hour and cost $10 per class.

Here is the class description:

GOLF FITNESS Is a one hour group class that focuses on golf-specific muscular strength, stability and balance, postural control and the development of power. Designed to help increase club head speed through a powerful turn and improved hip mobility to start hitting the ball straighter and farther. Another key area is core strength training for a balanced set up and a more consistent, stabilized swing.
•Flexibility training (Hip Mobility & Shoulder Turn)
•Strength training (Arms, Shoulders, Wrists, Back & Core)
•Balance training (Weight Transfer & Set Up)
•Stabilization training (Muscle Memory & Power Development)

I already excercise several times a week. Wouldn't have the time. Probably a good idea, but I prefer to do general excercise that I can do at home.

I've done golf fitness classes before through our local Parks and Recreation, and they were good, but they were once a week for six weeks and then you had the program for home. I like the idea of having it at the gym and going with the group 3 times per week; I know I would have better incentive to keep up with it that way. $10 per session seems reasonable too.

I think that something like this would be great - I belong to a golf fitness gym in the city, however it costs quite a bit per month and definitely an arm and a leg for one on one training sessions. Regardless, it still does decent business.

If there were a gym that offered a class like this, especially with a nominal charge, it should bring in extra interest.

One on one PT is very expensive. Not sure if I shld run it just during the winter or all year. I think winter is where its at for this.... That dream off being a beast off the tee on the first hole of spring......

You likely would find quite a few people taking the class for about a month, and then dropping off. Reasons...
* They learn the routine and go out on their own
* They think of themselves as golfers, not athletes (it's illogical, but some people think like this)

Those who remained might make a good core side-business.

Also... TPI and others have exercise packages online which workout fans can tap for free.

Idea: If you have any wintertime golf clinics by local pros, see if you could get a slot showing workout routines.

I'm getting physical therapy this month for a hip injury, and the therapist is pals with one of the leading teaching pros in the area. I've been brainstorming with him on how to get a critical mass of people interested in golf training.

Focus, connect and follow through!

You have to switch up the routine week to week. Otherwise yes, it gets boring. There are hundreds of different exercises you can do to work your golf-specific muscles. The interesting thing is the flexability exercises, you could go 3 days a week, to 10 flexability excercises and not do the same one for 3-4 months.

Have had interest from a lot of lady golfers, they are just as if not more competitive with each other than we are.

If I were a member of a gym and they offered this, I'd probably take it at least once per week. I doubt my gym (UCLA's school gym) would offer it, but hey, my undergrad gym had massage classes.

Although for my money a good pilates class comes as close as anything to a golf fitness class, especially if some extra yoga/stretching and lower body strength movements are added,

You dont really need to take a fitness class, per sea. But it couldnt hurt. Just a general level of strenth and fitness training with some simple stretches mixed in is good enough for most of us.
