this summer i was practicing a lot and got my handicap down pretty low. but these last two or three rounds i've been hitting the ball really badly. all my iron shots have been super thin and sliced. any advice? all thoughts are appreciated. btw, my irons are blades with almost no offset.

sounds like your coming out of the shot, stay down keep looking down after the ball has gone.

Most of the time when I see this miss it is due to the hands getting away from the body. A real quick "Fix" (if there ever is one...lol) is to stick your elbow into your ribs or to at least try to. For a right handed golfer take your right elbow on the down swing and make and effort to jam it inside your rib cage. That will make sure your hands stay inside... Just my thoughts...

Typically when you're hitting those high spinners to the right it means that your left elbow (for a RH golfer) is doing the chicken wing. Keep it straight and roll through the shot and you'll be back to normal.

This right elbow move is something I keep coming back to. Byron Nelson used to say something like "brush the right hip with the right elbow on the downswing". Whenever I'm struggling with pulls and thin contact, this thought really helps.

Whenever I have problems with my irons I practice my wedge play with a PW so that I can focus on my take away.

I make sure that I focus on a compact swing taking the club back with a glove under my rear arm pit and practice chipping then pitching with my wedges. I will start with hip high and slowly move up to 1/2 then 3/4 and finally full swings once I begin to make solid contact. then I will focus on distance control and finally direction. I will slowly move up my irons to 9, 8, 7, 6 etc.

In other words its back to your basic swing and take away. don't worry, it only tweaking a few thing here and there that is causing your thin shots. the slice can be corrected also with the follow through making sure that your club is turning over from toe up on your backswing to toe up after impact. This can also be practice starting with your wedges on up your clubs if you watch the flight of the ball.

well, you were pretty close. i went to the range today. i knew it couldn't be my backswing cause i take great care to keep my left arm straight, and my set up is good. what i did find out though is i was blocking my release. my right hand was never fully turning over my left so i was hitting it low on the face with an open club. since i stopped practicing like i was, i'd forgotten that feeling of a proper follow through.
