Hmm... two consecutive 65s for Zach Johnson at this course. Not bad.

Anyone know why play got suspended? Darkness?

I think so.

[valley girl]After all, like, duh, it didn't even start until like 7:30 at night or whatever.[/vg] (joking... I think darkness, yes.)

I think only one person didn't finish. He was on the final green when play was suspended. So he got to sleep on his eagle putt.

Hey, Troy Merritt... way to start your rookie season. Will he get the award for "fastest win of a Q-School medalist?" He has to win before the TPC Scottsdale tournament.

I saw that bad hole. He reminded me of me! Did you notice how calm he was though?

I think that's what you can take away from that, yes. He came right back too.

That attempted Hybrid shot on the following hole too, embarrasing.Went about 50 yards.Reminded me of Woody Austin.

Johnson did recover well though, yeah.Takes a lot of bottle.

Interesting to watch Robert Allenby play with an injured (and strapped) ankle - 3/4 swings with the long irons. He's putting very well and seems to be keeping his composure. A commentator pointed out that this is a course where you can get away with this to some extent, compared with e.g. Kapalua. He's a tough competitor - we'll see how he holds up today (Sat).

Goose certainly made a run at it today, but that score isn't going to hold up as long as there's no wind.

Anyone else think there may be one Major in Robert Allenby? He's not won too often on the PGA tour (4 times, and none since 2001), But has 4 European tour wins and 13 PGA of Australasia tour wins. He's very solid, technique-wise and plays with great confidence these days.Plus his record in playoffs is intimidating, 11 wins in 12 attempts.Fancy him to sneak a Major win at some point.

I wouldn't want to asnwer that one but Allenby is sure playing smart, composed golf at this point (16th). Remarkable what a new putting stroke can do for a golfer. It's turning into a nice, tight finish.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
