It's actually getting worse. Wilson now offers a set with two gap wedges. TM is not far off, with an amazing 11° gap between PW and SW, another gap wedge is just 1° away it seems. People do fall for this crap, believe it or not. I've heard countless people talk about how "the new technology hits it further." If delofting is new technology, what is the sextant, infintile technology?

The clinching reason I got my current iron set was a PW with a 48* loft, or as I like to call it a 9 iron.

Although most know the reason the ball is going further is due to delofting, it still is a decent gimmick to a certain segment. Old farts, such as myself, hate to admit that they cannot hit it as far as they used to. My w/s di7 irons are delofted, although not quite as much as these. Maybe I need to check these out.

Di7 are the most delofted of them all. The PW is 43°! That's stronger than a 9 iron in many sets. These TaylorMades would seem very weak to you.

BTW, how many kids used to have a basketball goal lower than the standard 10ft height in their backyard? I had one and had a ton of fun with it. Made me feel like a an NBA player. It's all about having fun. If some are happy with getting more distance with a delofted club, so be it. Why should anyone care?

Just because the number is different doesn't mean you're hitting it farther. Now we have sets with 5-PW, AW, & GW. When does it stop? When will you have 8 gap wedges? The problem is, many people fall for this bulls&%t, and go out and buy new clubs nearly every year. How many people here are playing clubs even 4 years old? Look at what I play, all of my clubs are at least 3 years old. My putter is from the early 80s, my irons from 2005, my Driver from 2006. Do you see me needing to run out every year and get a new set of irons? Maybe it's because I'm not stupid enough to buy this BS about technology.

Do you know why I change clubs? Because they wear out. I got my current set of irons when I got fitted for irons. I would still be playing the last set, but they were 4° too flat, and the shafts were far too weak. I will get a new driver when mine cracks. Cavity back irons and large headed drivers are all pretty much the same, but we're led to believe that if we buy the new set that we'll lose more strokes, and have more fun. Yet the average handicap now is the same as it was 20 years ago. The average consumer is being screwed. They're being sold stronger and stronger sets of clubs. It's like watching a smoker, you know he's killing himself, but he just keeps puffing away. It kills me to watch this. Don't be a fool, always ask, "loft, length."

My previous set of irons were 7 years old, the ones prior to that...even older. In fact I'm on my 5th set of irons and have been playing this game 42 years. But if I wanted to buy a new set every year, it's my business. Certainly not yours. People buy new clubs because they want a change and it's fun to play something different. As I said, I know the delofted club doesn't make me hit it further. Why should it bother you anyway? You don't have to buy them. Geezzzzz.........

Shanks, sweetie, we all know that and do not care what number is on the club. If I need to go 150 yards I use the club that does that. Do you really think Taylormade wants everyone to fly over the green as a marketing ploy? I do not think anyone feels duped, I knew the lofts before I bought, what moron would not? I feel your moral outrage and indignation is a red herring. The Burner irons are a very well engineered club that works.. and Sir Nick likes them! I am willing to bet my olf Titleist clubs have lower lofts than your current set... betcha.

My dad and I both got our clubs this Wednesday. He got the graphite stiff and I got steel stiff. They both hit great. I'm not surprised. I can't fund a $700 set of irons right now, but I'll probably pass my 6-iron along to someone else who might want to try it out.

My next set of irons are a long way away. I just got these X-18s, so it's going to be awhile before I'm in the market again. But these Burners and the r7s are on my short list when I do get back in the market for a set of irons.

What's in my Sun Mountain C-130 bag:

Driver - Taylormade Superfast 2.0 TP 10.5
3 Wood - Taylormade Burner 15* REAX
Hybrid - Adams Idea Pro 18* GD YSQ-HL

Irons - Callaway X-18 4-PW

GW - Cleveland 588 51*

SW - Cleveland CG 12 56*

LW - Cleveland CG15 60*

Putter - Cameron Studio Style Newport 2

I got this email, too. It seems I'm still eligible for a free "six" iron.

I won one of the 6-irons. I hate the feeling of the burner series, I just signed up so I can sell the iron (Which is what I posted on craigslist today) haha.

Got the e-mail today saying the 6 iron is on the way, too! I'm excited to try it. I'm in the market for new irons - I was at the end of last season too. I hit the burners then and was expecting to love, as many people do (and I love my TM driver). But every time I hit them, or thought I hit them well, it felt so bad. The hits were ok (simulator at PGA Superstore) but it didn't have that feeling of a well struck shot. I hope the new one is better. I've not really hit a golf ball since November, but I need to get out and get some practice and do some serious shopping. It's time for me to replace my set. Maybe the Burner will help, certainly won't hurt.

Burners never feel quite right. Nickent clubs were the same way. It seems like they forgive off center hits by sacrificing on center ones.

Every company does it, but it had gotten better for a while, then TaylorMade decided to go at it again. Delofting is extremely common, Wilson makes a set where the 6 iron is actually a 4 iron.

I hit the last series Burner when I was looking for new clubs, and like most people, I was amazed at the distance I was getting on the launch monitor. I'm always skeptical though, and I noticed ball flight was lower than I typically hit, so came home to do some research and looked at the lofts.

I really could care less about the lofts, what I hit is what I hit with a certain club, but I wonder how many unknowing customers are carrying around TM Burners thinking that they're some magical club that are better than all the other irons?

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
