I'm not a fan of Dustin Johnson's spitting

As far as finding it disgusting:

I guess you look past the duck or goose crap when you're by the water? Cigarette butts are OK?

I would rather have someone dipping and spitting than see 30 cigarette butts beside the greens when I'm walking up.

LOL. Some tracks that I know almost need "duck rules" on selected water holes. You know ..... lift, clean, replace (in a c**p-free area, nearest point of relief, no nearer the hole, etc etc etc).

Some of you "guys" in this thread, really need to lighten up. And maybe even grow a pair. Look, a lot of guys chew. I chew Kodiak and Copenhagen. I'm not ashamed. I spit on the golf course too. Oh no, oh no. I spit on the greens too. And guess what girls....you can't even see it. You have no idea that it even happened. So lighten up, you bunch of metros.

I will agree to all of this wholeheartedly, except for the part of spitting on the greens. That I never do. If I absolutely have to spit while on the greens, the rough, or even the fairway, is only a few short yards away.

As for some guys being girls about this. Yes, they are. I would bet most of the strangers I've ever played with even knew I was dipping. Add to the fact that I think there are more guys who smoke while golfing than chew while golfing. Even w/ smoking, it doesn't bother me. We're outdoors, smoking is anyones right, and they're not holding up play, so who am I or anyone else to tell them they don't want them smoking? or chewing for that matter?

Yeah, that's great, call people who happen to think chewing tobacco is disgusting "girls." Great way to win over hearts and minds.

As long as you're not leaving a blob on the green, then I have no problem with that. Just dispose of the plug properly.

yeah, i'm going to have to go with spitting on greens as going overboard. cause if i ever pick up my ball to wipe it off and there's brown spit with tobacco on it, i'm going to make sure the guy in front of me spitting on the greens damn well knows it.

spiting on the greens is bad, but anywhere else is ok, but i think the general idea of the original post was that this guy is on TV. Professional golfers are suppose to represent an image, and chewing tobacco isn't in that image. Whether or not an amateur decides to chew on the course is entirely up to that person

Not sure why, but this topic reminds me of a thread (seen on a different site) where cat owners want to let their pets run wild - no tags, no license. In contrast, their neighbours want to trap or even snuff out those cats, because they're constantly sh****** in the neighbour's garden and flower beds (and ripping up their garbages).

It's all a matter of perspective. The chewer wants to spit and doesn't care how long it takes to evaporate/disappear, because it's only the people in the following groups who'll come accross it. The non-chewers, who probably think chewing is inherently gross, hope they don't see or step in someone's brown sticky hork. Spitting is perhaps the new "cigarette butts and sunflower seeds".

Just follow common sense. Spit somewhere out of sight, and don't lick your golf ball to clean it.

I guess me picking my butt on the tee is a no go then...

Oh, please...(barf!)

For Christ's sake, this sounds like a thread my mother would have started..

Anyone gonna touch this one?

    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
