This one should be good. This field is always such a beast. Anyone got any crazy predictions for this one? I feel like Mickelson bounces back and lets everyone know he's still a freak. Not exactly a "crazy prediction" since he is defending champion, but a prediction nonetheless.

Quiros is a lock, he is ecstatic about being where English is a second language. His long knock will serve him well.
Of course Camilo says the area is just like being in Columbia, (now there is a complement all American cities can aspire to), so he may continue his roll.

Unfortunately, there's no Fowler this week. The field consists of (per Wikipedia):

Top 50 players from the Official World Golf Rankings (one week and two weeks prior to event)
Top players from member tours' money lists or orders of merit (from last complete season)
Top 30 PGA Tour FedEx Cup list (also top 10 from one week prior to event)
Top 20 European Tour (also top 10 from two weeks prior to event)
Top 2 each from Asian Tour, Japan Golf Tour, PGA Tour of Australasia, and Sunshine Tour
The field will consist of approximately 70 eligible players, half that (144 to 156 players) for most regular PGA Tour events. Because of the limited field, there is no 36-hole cut.

I would have to disagree. Phil is a train wreck waiting to happen. I think his ability is only exceeded by Tiger, but mental part of his game is one of the weakest on tour.

Looking at the leader board just now, with Allenby on top, it's possible he could pull it off. He's been playing well as of late. Hard to believe he hasn't won yet.

He's had a tendency to fade down the stretch in 2010, basically like he's had for the last decade. Still, opening a tournament with a 30 through nine holes is what it is.

I'll be glad to see Allenby fall by the wayside. He didn't show much class a last years Presidents Cup. Throwing jabs at AK then getting his butt whooped by him.

I'm amazed Allenby got to -8 in those conditions. I was playing simultaneously at my course not too far away and the wind was brutal. Relocated my visor three or four times. We were guessing Doral scores and most of us thought 68 would lead.

Doral needs those winds. Otherwise there are only a handful of challenging holes for the top pros, basically 3, 4, 13 and 18. Doral really needs to strengthen at least two holes. I would carve out some land on 9, for one thing, to bring the water into play.

In South Florida there literally could be a handicap adjustment based on what time of day you play. I'm always stuck in afternoon when the conditions are often similar to Doral today. Mornings are almost always docile. I hate that Doral is moving the tee times up severely tomorrow. That will enable lower scores. They are worried about afternoon showers but the real impact will be lack of breeze.

Count me as one who could think of no one else I'd rather see win than Ernie Els. -8 total so far today and in the lead, or last I checked.

    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
    • Caution for the seniors on weight training: Listen to your body. (I'm 75) I got a recent session with an orthopedist after a training-related injury. I put too much weight on a new resistance machine at the gym and ended up with bursitis in my left hip. Of course, it's the hip I dislocated back in 2023. I have my first physical therapy session tomorrow. I remarked that some days I can do 45 lbs. chest press - two sets - without much effort. But other days it drops down to 30 (😩) with just one set. (Complicating factor: I had digestive problems in this fall and lost about 20 lbs., with slip in muscle tone.) Orthopedist said that I want to feel some resistence, but that I should go with lots of reps with manageable weights rather than trying to set some sort of lift-pound record. I'm sure I'll get some refinements on lifting during tomorrow's PT.
