Any RH players use a LH club for trouble shots? (vice versa)

I've always thought about throwing a left handed 7 iron or something in my bag just in case I got caught against a tree or something where I had to hit the ball in an awkward position. Does anyone do this? I know you could just flip around a 3 iron and whack away but I've always thought about it and it could be handy.

no point really.
The shot isn't going to come up often enough to justify a space in the bag

There are certain courses I play that have deep bunkers. If your ball ends up next to the right-hand edge of one of them, you'll take your stance in the bunker and the ball is next to your waist. You could stand on the ground and turn a 9-iron around and hit the ball backwards with your right hand, but that's a tough shot. I instead put a left-handed club in my bag when I play courses like this.

It's a child's left-handed 9-iron, about 30" long. I swing it back-handed with my right hand. It's such an easy shot and has saved my bacon several times. I don't carry a fairway wood, which gives me flexibility to be creative about what the 14th club in my bag can be.

I had that thought once myself after I found myself hitting off of tree roots with a tree exactly where I needed to stand. But in such a situation where the ball lies in a position where an unmovable object prevents you from taking your normal stance, are you not always entitled to relief?

B-con, you can't take relief from a tree etc blocking your stance unless declaring an unplayable lie -- and taking a penalty drop.
I've sometimes fooled around practicing opposite handed chipping (RH, as i'm normally a lefty) with a 9-iron flipped upside down. I'd agree though the shot doesn't happen (at least for me) enough to justify carrying an off-handed club for this.

I'm just wondering for those who carry less clubs than the actual limit, such as myself (13).

Don't think I've had enough of situations like that to fill one hand during my years as a golfer. So no, I've never considered putting a lefty club in my bag. If I'm close to the green, I might try some weird stuff to get it onto the green. If I have no chance of reachin the green, I chip it out or take a drop.

Ah, rule 24-2(i) only applies to to artificial objects. Thanks.

I have been, lately. Have a mismatched set at the moment -- My longest iron is 22* and my 4h is 23*. Once I made friends with my hybrids, I pulled the 5 iron out of the bag as it was kinda redundant. After a couple rounds I went ahead and put it back in there... 1.) Because I can. 2.) I'm not going to be spending a lot of clubs money anytime soon. Eventually I'll pull it for a 5 wood, but until then might as well use the stick if I'm allowed to carry it. It's been my 'Aw, damnit' lie club. Have to hit something off a rock or whatever, bang the hell out of the redundant 5i. Heh.

As to the OP, don't think I'd carry a righty club for weirdo lies... If for no other practical reason than I simply can't make that shot. Swinging right-handed feels way too bizarre and I can't even seem to grip the club correctly. I'd have better luck with the backside of my putter or something like that.

I carry both a LH and Rh sand wedge. being at 11 if i only had the RH one. I used to play with my step dads clubs and thats the set up he had and it actually came in handy when in bunkers and in the woods.

waste of a space in the bag imo

Agree. I can't hit left-handed anyway, so carrying such a club would be useless. If I can't get at the ball right-handed, then I'll take the unplayable, or I'll play out in a different direction. For me, anything else would be a wasted stroke.
