I hit balls when possible, chipped indoors, and played anytime it was over 35* so I kept my game in shape over the winter for the most part. I've put up my two lowest rounds the last few weeks now that it has warmed up.

I will say also, after playing in some nasty conditions, it's easier to stay focused on every shot now that the weather is getting decent.

Much better then I thought! I was not expecting too much because I made some equipment changes from last year (changed shafts from PX 6.0 to X100's finally to Rifle 6.5's + I have a new driver). I played my first official 9-hole round this year yesterday.

36 - (5 pars, 2 birdies, 2 bogies)

16 putts
4 fairways (57%)
5 greens (55%)

Was extremely happy with my iron play and ball striking. Driving was adequate (2 wayward drives left me no opportunity to hit these greens in regulation). Short game left little to be desired (up-n-down percentage was a whopping 33% - 1 for 3).

I took some lessons starting in February and I have noticed a huge difference in my swing. I played about 4 rounds in FL at the beginning of march and my game wasn't fantastic, but I chalked it up to not playing in 3 months and working through some swing changes. I feel as though my game is decent right now, but I won't really know until I get out to play a few rounds here. The swing feels good...will have to see what the short game is like in a couple of weeks.

So where do you stand?

Horrible

Still haven't hit that mark where my swing clicks and is grooved.....catching the ball thin, chunking it, push, fade, hook, spank, slice.....guessing it will be another few weeks....chipping is solid....putting is marginal, still no feel.....wedges are a gamble....Driver is a roller coaster..... This game is fun!!!!!

Really sloppy. I didnt do much with my game over the winter. My timing, posture, and alignment are all still off. Im hitting alot of shots fat. As it warms up and i get a little more limber i should be ok. My putting came around the last round i played so im happy there. But now that greens are beginning to be aerated its going to be tough to keep that rythm going.

havent been out yet....and we got 2" of snow last night :(
should be soon though...probably get out in the next 1-2 weeks or so
it will be wet and green will be firm, but its golf at least

only hit the indoor range twice and things clicked fine, like i never left the game
hoping for a good year and get down to a 2 or better

I went once a week to the range over the winter, but haven't really learned if it will pay off yet. My first round out was on an easy municipal course, so my 75 there doesn't count for much in my book. First true test is this Sunday as I will be back at my home course.

Hadn't touch a club since the friday before Christmas until last week. Played 27 last friday 45, 45, 43 and playing again today. Ball striking crisp and pure...no bad habits. Chipping...ahhhh chipping. is it bad when you are 30 or even less yards out and your goal is to keep it on the green? I am pretty sure that is bad. Putting, there were several times i stood over a longish type lag putt and my thought process was as simple as "I have no f-in idea how hard to hit this" LOL love early season golf.

I'm not planning to play my first official round until next Friday the 2nd, but I've been to the range a few times already and while I'm definitely rusty, I'm really encouraged because it feels like my swing is in much better shape than it has been at the start of the season in previous years. Chipping and putting I'm not too sure about since I haven't been able to do much of that.

Went to the range yesterday, and was swinging way to fast, tempo was off on the first 10-20 balls, after that and getting my tempo in check it was ok. Our course will not open until May so putting and chipping is a cloud at the moment, but the swing is getting there.

Bought a new 3 wood and have got it grooved

I'm nervous to get out there. I finally decided to get lessons starting back in late August last year. I have been practicing all winter in my local dome. My last 2 practice sessions went extremely well. I think something finally "clicked" from taking these lessons. I'm just anxious to see how this new swing of mine will play outdoors on grass.

Just got out for my first 9 of the year - game is in tact. 5 pars, 3 bogeys, 1 birdie (37) including two 3 putts due to crappy early season greens. First time I've used my own GPS, though, which I think was a HUGE help.

It's not quite over where I live (regardless of what the calendar says - "First day of spring" my arse!)

Anyway, I'd say the game is solid after 5 months of hitting off perfect lies, without wind, out of imitation sand, out of imitation rough with no flyer lies, with yardage and elevation info on every shot, and absolutely no pressure. We'll see how things go the first time I've got the ball 8" below one foot and 15" below the other, with swirling wind in my face.

oh boy...
was hitting pretty well at the range over the winter
was getting comfortable hitting most of my clubs
BUT played my first 18 yesterday and what a difference!

forgot what it was like hitting off fresh grass in the open air
lost all sense of orientation and everything i practiced for a swing
ended up just trying to "hit" the ball, arrrgh

anyway, it was great to be back on the course no matter how bad
welcome back spring

    • I get kidney stones. So 100 oz of water every day. Some nights I drink 32oz between midnight and 6 Am. Which means I dont sleep much.
    • 46 (9 over) Short game and putts were awful!
    • 46+40 for an 86. I just need to play 9 holes on the range before each round. 🤣🤣🤣
    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
