A lot of you have heard and know of the "feet together drill", which is a great drill to warm up with and you hit the ball fairly close to your normal swing length when doing it. Does anyone here play with their feet fairly close together when it comes to their irons? I believe Sergio plays with his feet closer than average. Does anyone here do that on a consistent basis with good results when playing?

Thanks

I haven't done it in a while, but i should. It helped me gain great feel of tempo and proper hip movement. If your feet are together you can't lateral shift your hips to much or you fall down, and if you overswing you are toast. A great drill.

I always warm up with it. My friend told me that this drill will tell me how fast I can swing the club while maintaining good balance.

I can't hit with my feet together. I try it with a driver and I slice. I try it with an iron and it's a snap fade. It is possible that I have bad balance.

yeah, i used to do it quite often. it's a great drill for tempo and proper hip movement. i did it all the time last summer, guess that's why i was playing 10 strokes better.

It is a good drill to learn hip slide and keeping the head still. If you move the head either way, you will lose balance.

The reason it is a good drill for consistent contact is the head. When the head moves forward or backward, your ballstriking will suffer a lot. Keeping it still is an important part of good ball striking and solid contact. I don't think it's a good drill for working on swing plane and the kinetic chain, for that you need better balance.

Years ago, a pro showed me how to use an "almost feet together" stance for partial shots. He had me hitting half and quarter shots using PW down to 6 iron. Helped my short game quite a bit - even had a couple of rounds that year with

no double bogies. Kept it up for several years, then had a multi-season layoff from golf for life reasons and never really picked it up again. I'm entering year two with my revised club mix, maybe I should try it again.

Just got back from the range and I did a majority of my swinging with my feet closer together, not TOGETHER but about a foot apart at the most and it made most my striking fairly consistent. From 60 degree - 4 iron. Obviously with 60 degree my feet being very close compared to my 4 iron, but it does work. Also, full swings.

In 2008 I hit a point where I completely lost my swing. I was at the point where I was so inconsistent shot after shot that I up and quit playing. Then I came across the feet together drill and one night while I couldn't sleep I went to the garage and tried to see how it felt. Because the only thing moving was my shoulders, I thought maybe I could try this to get some resemblance of a consistent swing. I went to the range and hit some good shots but it felt really consistent. I ended up once '09 came playing a round with my feet together. I didn't score particularly well but I made some great contact. I don't need to play with it anymore but usually on my warm-up I swing 2-3 times to get a feeling of my shoulder turn.

    • A strong grip cups the wrist (lead) and then it wants to flatten through impact, something I used to be able to avoid to keep it from going left and protecting my forearm (the main premise of my set up). Longer the club, harder it is becoming. Either way, yes, I need to transition to gripping it open.
    • Why don't you grip it "open" so you can return your hand to the place where you're comfortable/not sore, but the ball won't go left? It's effectively weaker… without actually "being" weaker?
