So I'm in a predicament and need some advice. I found an amazing deal for $260 it would be a Nike Sumo Driver, Taylormade 3 wood, and Cleveland launcher 5 wood, and then 3-pw taylormade supersteel irons. The only problem is, I'm in high school, I don't have $260 laying around. However, I do have some video games I could sell that would put me close to having enough. I am currently playing with some clubs I bought at wally world when I started last season and am on the brink of breaking 100. At the same time, I want to sell my xbox and get the clubs, but at the same time I want to keep it because I enjoy it from time to time. Next year I am also going off to college so that is something else to think about. Thanks guys, look foward to reading your responses.

I would not see this as a particularly good deal. You could get much more recent clubs for less.
But, in any case, unload the video games. They are for 7 year olds and kidults. Play golf instead. You won't regret it.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I would sell video game over golf equipment any day. I would double check the good deal with prices on Ebay or with your folks.

I feel your pain. I'm graduating from college this May and play video games and golf. You should do whatever brings you the most enjoyment. It's going to be different for everybody. That being said, there may be better deals to be had for newer clubs. There's nothing wrong with building your bag slowly one piece at a time.

I think you may get a lot of skewed responses also based on the fact you're considering selling video games. It's a generational thing. Remember, it's going to be cheaper and easier to play xbox with friends over golf with friends in college. It won't be golf season most of the time while you're at school. It's more likely that new kids you meet at school will play video games rather than golf.

Golf is my primary interest, so I would not mind selling stuff I don't use much for it. Not my Xbox and favourite games, but some other stuff I would not mind.

Speaking from past experience, every time I sold something I liked to buy something else, I regretted it in the end, because I ended up taking a loss on the thing I sold, and then ended up rebuying the same thing later on.

I guess I am the lone dissenter...I would not sell your games. You will enjoy them next year and for many years to come. It is free and a great stress reflief from your college studies. I am 47 still have an xbox from the early 90s, although I dont play alot..in the winter it comes in handy. How about you find a job? You will need money to pay for greens fees, going to need money for shoes, balls, getting to and from the course and a job will help with all that. Good luck with whatever you decide.

But yea, thanks for the advice, I guess I thought it was like an amazing deal or something which is why, but I think I'll just wait till' I get some graduation money to buy new clubs :)

Good choice.

This is a timely post for me.... Here's my story. Last summer I bought the Titleist AP1 irons. I have never bought a brand-new, fitted for me set of irons before. To make the deal, I told my wife I would buy it through Golfsmith's 12-months no payment/no interest deal and if I could come up with the $800+ in that time I would pay for it that way...or, if I couldn't, I'd sell one of my precious guitars. Well.....I will be selling my Martin guitar this summer to pay for them. She keeps telling me "I hate to see you sell your guitar...." but I said "I know, but a deal is a deal....I said I wouldn't pay for them out of our checking account..."

Music is my first and foremost passion. Golf is a close second. But, the fact is, I have four acoustic guitars. While they all have different stories, tone, personality, sentimental value, etc.....fact is I don't play them all equally. I love my Martin, but it's not my "primary" guitar. Even so.....with a heavy heart, I am selling it. Time will tell if I miss it and regret doing it...or if I don't even realize it's gone because I have three other guitars and a brand new set of clubs.

I guess the point I am trying to make is that you need to have a balance between your interests. You should never completely give something up to provide for something else. Compromise, but don't completely sacrafice.

Selling the video games will make your life better in college, you'll spend less time glued to the TV when you should be studying. Not being preachy there, I experienced it and saw some really bad cases of procrastination where video games were involved. Not to say you can't use golf to procrastinate, but it's a heck of a lot less accessible.

I sell things all the time to fund the golf equipment bug. I sell my hoarded car parts and occasional firearms if I feel like golf clubs are something I want. I try to keep my total accumulation of "stuff" to a minimum, so I've kind of instituted a policy where any major golf purchases are funded by selling off of other hobby items so it doesn't become too expensive.

I say sell the Xbox. I guarantee you a bunch of your buddies will have video games in their dorm rooms that you will be able to go over and play, and there are plenty of good free games for your laptop/desktop you can download.

Get rid of the XBox and go out and enjoy life.. Except for a few competitive game fanatics I have not heard of anyone benefitting from being an XBox wizard. But everywhere I look I see kids that only know how to play games. Of course gamers would say the same about golfers. Hmmm?

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

etlreams, I also play guitar and that is my other option is to trade off my electric guitar and amp(would keep my acoustic), still not sure though, am really thinking about selling both the xbox(and I don't play it that much, lol from everybody's comments it's like its a 20+hr a week thing, its more like 5hrs maybe haha), but I havn't really enjoyed my electric like I thought I was going to when I first got it this Christmas(have been playing acoustic for like 8yrs now). thanks for the advice!

I guess I will be in the minority here and say it's not a good idea. One of the best lessons you will learn from not selling your video games to buy the clubs is if you can't afford it don't buy it. Plus unless you are on the golf team in college you will play less golf during the school year. All of my buddies from my high school golf team tried to walk on and most didn't make it then they didn't really golf at all. I'm not saying you won't play golf but you will see that there's so much going on in college that taking 2 to 4 hours out of your day will be tough. I would make a budget for new golf clubs and add to it as much as possible until you can afford new clubs. Plus there is always great deals to had some where so I wouldn't worry about this one passing. I would just worry about enjoying college because it's basically the time of your life and once it's over there will be plenty of time for golf. Good luck with whatever you decide...
